For 'B Team Championship1
ivaavai. RVIHHU, IIW-THE HKADT HERALD, BRADY, TEXAS—FAGB 9
The Brady Bullpups stopped m
fourth-quarter rally and defeated
the Hillbilly B team in Freder-
icksburg Thursday night, 36-28.
The victory gave Coach Ed
Whiteley • Pupa the “B team
championship” of District 18-AA,
although the dmtrict does not
actually play for a champion-
ship. In previous weeks the Pupa
had beaten the three other mem
hers of the league, 14-12 over
I.lano, 40-6 over Lampasas, and
40-20 over San Saba.
The Pup* wind up their
season here in Bulldog Stad-
ium Thuraday night, meeting
the Coleman H tram at 7:45
o'clock. Coleman edged the
Pup* last September. 14-12.
In Fredericksburg, the Pups
built up a 28-8 lead in the first
half but almost let the game get
away from them.
“We weren't mentally ready,"
Whiteley Mid. “But I think they
learned a lesson, that you can’t
change your way of playing after
the game start*.”
W. L. Mooring returned the
opening kickoff JK) yards for a
Brady touchdown, but Fredericks-
burg came right back, scored and
added the points, to lead 8-6.
Brady scored three times an the
second period, QB Greg Phase

going around left end 35 yards
for another and then taking a

The Pups' “little boys” took
over, and Fredericksburg went 35
yards for a touchdown on the first
play from scrimmage. A few min-
utes later, the Hillbillies threw a
long pa an.
“We had him covered, but the
ball hit the receiver on the helmet,
bounced off into the hands of an-
other Fredericksburg boy, and he
went on to score," Whiteley said.
With Fredericksburg closing the
gap, 36-28, Whiteley ran "the big
boys” back in to put out the fin*

could have been different if
the Bulldog* hadn't had their
hud lurk."
Mitchell, of course, was refer-
ring to an automobile wreck two
weeks ago that killed one Melvin
player and injured Melvin's start-
ing quarterback.
(iaylon Cowan scored from the
