Labor Survey
Team Going to
Melvin Monday
The Texas Employment Com-
mission. which I* making a labor
survey here, will conduct a series
of tests In the Melvin High School
library Monday afternoon, begin-
ning nt 5 o'clock.
Being made to determine the
potential manpower or McCulloch
County, the survey may be useful
in the future for Industries Hint
may desire to come to Met ulloch
County.
Any man or woman In the Mel-
vin area, whether they are employ-
ed or not. Is Invited to take the
tests. They may want a part-time
job or a better Job. and men with
small farms particularly are
urged to take the tests.
The tests will require three

the Melvin Lions Club will serve

COMING TO PARADE-The Santa Fe
Railway is sending its miniature freight train
to Brady next Monday for the Jubilee parade
at Id a. m. Headquartered in Topeka. Kan., the
train is a favorite with spectators at civic cele-
brations all over the Santa Ee system.
In Serious Condition
A. K. (Hoss) Flanagin enter-
ed Brady Hospital June 1, and re-
mains seriously ill, according to
relatives.
Released Front Hospital
Jonct Adams was released from
Brady Hospital Wednesday, and
returned to Ids home at Placid, lie
is recovering from serious in-
juries sustained about two weeks

All horse tiding entrants will
gather on the va ant lot in front
of the Farmers & Ranchers Co-
op Feed Store with Sheriff Luke
Yogtd in charge.
The floats will proceed north on
Elm t » Commerce Street where
they will turn w. -t and circle the
square counterclockwise, leaving
on South Blui khurn. On Black-
burn the float* will be taken out
at Third Street while the re.*t of
the pat ole continues untd it
reaches Sixth Street.
The reviewing stand will he sit
up near the smith entrance to
the courthouse.

as," to he chosen Friday night,
also will appear.

Other floats are sponsored by
the McCulloch County Home Dem-
onstration Clubs, Mrs. Walter
llunl Dairy, Wesley Bratton. Rain-
bow (.iris, Ken Young, and the
McCulloch County Farm Bureau.
Bands include the Lackland Air
Force Band, Sun Antonio; hurt
Hood Army Band, Killeen; and the
Brady High School Band. The
Goodfellow Color Guard will
march also.
Dignitaries in the parade in-
clude the Brady City Council, the
County Commissioners. State Rep.
Terry Townsend, and State Sena-
tor Louis Crump from San Saha.
First, second and third place
ribbons in each of the six divisions
will be awarded: visiting floats
and queens, county clubs, Brady
dubs, junior clubs, commercial, and
bands and marching units.

Horses running this year in
the 35th nnnual July Jubilee will
be competing for more than $5,-
006 in purses and entry fees.
Every stull at the Jubilee track
has been reserved for two weeks,
and other horses nre still arriv-
ing, being stabled till over town.
"The horsemen just like ti»
race here," explained Rare
Manager Jack Locklear. Some
of the finest horses from Ok-
lahoma, Louisiana, and New
Mexico will he running, in ad-
dition to those from ull parts
of Texas.

The Jubilee races this year will
have a new presiding judge. John
H. Mayes of Floresville, who has
presided at 32 of the Jubilee’s 35
meets, suffered a stroke about a
month ago and won’t be able to
attend.
To replace him is R, M. Mc-
Carver of Sonora, vice president
of the Texas Racing Circuit. Well
known around the circuit, be has
served previously as starter at
Sonora, Junction, and as assoc-
iate steward at Fredericksburg
and Boeme.
This week the grounds nt the
Jubilee truck had been trimmed
and cleaned, and the grandstand
repaired. Crews from the City and
County also have put new gravel
on the roads leading to the track.
"The gravel should cut down
on our dust problem a great
deal." Locklear said in ex-
pressing his thanks to the
City and County.
A match roping contest will
be held at the Jubilee arena Sat-
urday and Sunday at 2 p. m. Ad-
mission is 56 cents for adults
and 25 cents for children. The top-
ing continues between races Mon-
day, Tuesday and Wednesday. A
(bicycle also will be given away
each day at the races.
Each Jubilee race carries a
purse of ut least $150, with the
entry fees added. The featured
races arc the Buck Richard* Purse
($266), a r‘H-mile run for two-
year-olds on Tuesday, the big
Merchants Derby <$3t)i ), a one-
mile run for three-year-olds and
older on Tue-duy, and the famous
Prady Dct y on Wednesday. The
Derby, a \ - mile run for three-
■ year-olds, and older, carries a
I $300 purse.
The Jubilee races start at 2
