Points About the Pole
Naybe it*<» a forked pole
No, Vfajorie, the pole is not the
babituf ot r.b'e polecat.
To Cook and Peary From what
direction does the wind blow at the
pole?
The cooks will now assume an
added air of icy hateur since one of
their rmmbcr round it first
We trust that m the excitement
of the discovery neither of the ex-
plorers neglected to pay his poll
tax.
So tar no one has suggested the
possibility that both discoverers
were laboring under hallucinations
superinduced by the excessive heat
First we demand scientific docu-
mentary proof that Mr. Walter
Wellman has not cornered the
dispensing service of the Artie
Circle.
It was an ideal spot ior both ex-
plorers (who are public speakers)
to revamp the oid gag about know-
ing no North, no South, no Bast,
no West.
- It is hoped that by next summer
the pole will- have become suffi-
ciently tamed to permit its use io
intimidating the Grand Old Texas
thermometer.
Like many things indigenous to
the North, the pole turns out to be
a nature fake tn that it is not a pole
at all, bnt merely a cool spot in
the ice.
Before hearing of the second dis
covery Dr. Cook said the pole was
no bigger than a quarter. After

Our fellow townsman C. B.
Moore is jnst back from * two
weeks’ visit in New Mexico,which
visit was prompted by the golden
wedding of bis parents, and which
event was duly celebrated in fine
form, as will be noted from the
account takeu from the Roswell
Record published below.
Incidental to hi9 trip Mr. Moore,
who is a close observer, took note
of the fact that DeWitt county and
this immediate section are greatly
favored this year over any other
parts ot the country he visited.
Nowhere did he see cotton higher
than eighteen to twenty inches,
with very poor yield at that, and
continuous complaint of dry weath-
er. The wheat crop in the Pan
handle is fair, but not as good as
in former years. .
He reports a most pleasant visit
but is glad to get back in harness
again.
ENTIRE FAMILY AT GOLDEN WED
DING.
“Married—Mr. C. A, Moore and
Miss Josie Oldham, at the home of
the bride's parents at LeesSummit,
Mo., at 8:30 p. m.f September, 27,
1859, the Reverend J. A. Murphy,
of the Methodist church,officiating.
That was just fifty years ago,and
the “bride and groom" celebrated
their Golden wedding yesterday
with a big family dinner at the
home of one ot the “children" Mrs.
Phil. Helmig, ■ on Lea avenue.
And it was a “big family" dinner,
for all of the seven “children"
were present; some with their hus-
bands or wives. It was a great
event, something seldom celebrated
when a conpie passes their fiftieth
anniversary and have ail their
.children with them. It was a
happy event io this particular fam-
ily, also. * *
Por the occasion the beautiful
new home of Mr. and Mrs. Helmig
was beautifully decorated with
golden glow, ferns aod other fall
beauties. The dinner was of the
old-fashiooed “family" type where
£veryibiog is sacrificed to whole-
souled enjoyment, good cheer and
happiness. Tt the table were the

Some people own rent property
that they attempt to collect for and
often lose seveial months’ rent,
being nnable to push collections as
they should. Why not list it with
regular collectors. We do Collect-
