For awhile yesterday all kinds
of rumors were afloat^regarding
findings of the well being bored at
the ice factory. A Times reporter
paid the well a visit in the even-
ing to find out conditions, and
although no oil indications are
visible it is safe to say a fine flow
of artesian water is not far off. A
j very fair stream was struck about
noon but Capt- Frank Knowlan
did not think it strong enough, an«
after a hasty consultation with
General Manager Rathbone of the
Ice & Power Co. the drills; were
started again on their downward
journey. The well was 754 feet
last night.—Victoria Times.
Don’t Like High Hats.
F. N. Lanik of Monserrate was
in town Thursday and brought in
quite a large jar of water from the
well ou his farm that is thought to
contain strong evidence of petro-
leum. The water is perfectly clear
[ but in a short time after drawing
deposits a peculiar looking sedi-
ment of a grayish color. On top is
something that looks like oil and
will burn wheu the water is freshly
drawn. The well is about 32 feet
deep and is an old one that Mr.
Lanik reopened. It was originally
dug about 20 yeats ago and closed
because stock would notrdiTfflPit
and people who did were made
sick.—Halletsville Herald.

A citizen of Macon,* Mo., thus
speaks of ladies’ hig hats: ‘‘I de-

seriously of his soul’s salvation

that many a poor sinner would
have been in the fold if he had not
forgotten his good resolutions in
order to swear at one of those pyr-
