The following lottera ore a selection of Mr. Ed's
porsonal favorites from tho napkin board forum
in tho Campus Center.
Dear Mr. Ed
Diana Richards told tnc that I could only have half a sandwich in the
Dean! I pay enough money for my meals that if I want one two three
or four footlong sandwiches I should be able to get them. What hap-
pened to the ACU way scrvicc-scrvicc-scrvicc and the customer
is ALWAYS right? She needs to be a bit more "in her place."

Wanting More Sandwiches (If I want)
'. Dear Wanting More H
Thank you for the napkin. This cleared up a misunderstanding. It is
not our policy to refuse a customer a whole sandwich. However the
standard sandwich is one-half or 6" Hoagies. This can be very confus-
ing since we are the only university I know of that doesn't enforce a
strict portion control policy. (My knowledge of this policy is based on
working directly or Indirectly with 30 different universities In Texas
Oklahoma Arkansas New Mexico Iowa and Illinois.)
Therefore the blame is not Diana's but mine for not making the poll-
cy clear. So t am headed for the stable that is my place.
Thanks
Mr. Ed

The Academic Excellence Committee conducts
activities intended to enhance the academic
atmosphere and reputation on campus each
semester said Brian Hughes co-chairman of the
committee. '
Jennifer Hancock co-chairman of the commit-
tee said "It's not just for the top 15 percent of
the school. It's for everyone"
Hughes senior Christian ministry and human
communication major from Dallas explained the
committee's purpose. "Basically the university
stands on a tripod: social spiritual and academ-
ic" he said. "The social and spiritual arc well-
developed and we're trying to raise the academ-
ic to that level but not by any means obscuring
the first two."
Hancock sophomore English major from
Austin said committee members have estab-
lished outward and inward goals. Outwardly the
committee tries to improve the academic image
of the university for prospective students while
inwardly it works to improve the academic
aspect on campus for students she said.
"We think that students should take responsi-
bility for their education and not come here and
just be consumers" Hancock said.
To accomplish their goals committee mem-
bers have planned several activities for the
semester.
We think that students
should take responsibility
for their education and not
come here and just be
consumers
Jennifer Hancock
Hughes said they will conduct a telethon to
benefit Browii Library for their major project.
The committee plans to use profits to acquire
new books and periodicals related to core cur-
riculum classes. Material for core classes wilt
benefit all students equally he said.
Julie Wright junior biochemistry major from
Pasadena said the fund-raiser focuses on an aca-
demic area that needs improvement. "You to j
down and look up a subject and they have somtiV
pretty outdated stuff' she said.
Intramural Jeopardy another committcc-spom
sored activity will involve students more direct
ly. Hughes said last semester 64 teams with four
members each competed in a committcc-spdh-sored
form of the tv gome show Jeopardy under'
the scrutinizing cars of faculty judges. P
Winners were awarded cash and other prizfcs: .
"We started Jeopardy to stimulate the academic .
focus on campus" Hughes said.
Students will have another chance to demon-
strate their knowledge of trivia when the commit-
tee again conducts Jeopardy in late March or
early April he said. -"'
In addition to library books and simulated
game shows committee members also want to
use funds to help students attend World Class a
summer study program that will take students to -Prague
Czech Republic and Vienna Austria
Hughes said. Specifics on the scholarships tire
forthcoming he said. '
