The women's basketball team
will continue its quest for a
Lone Star Conference champi-
onship and an NCAA Division II
playoff berth when it plays the Uni-
versity of Central Oklahoma Lady
Bronchos Saturday at 6 p.m. in
Edmond Okla.
The Wildcats defeated the Lady
Bronchos in Abilene Jan. 24 88-46
and lead the all-time scries 15-3.
Central Oklahoma won the meeting
in Edmond last season 98-91 for
its only home victory against the
Wildcats since joining the LSC
before the 1987-88 season.
The Lady Bronchos will enter
Saturday's game trying to stay in
position to play a quarterfinal LSC
tournament game at home. They
lost to West Texas A&M Universi-
ty 98-66 Monday in Canyon to fall
to'5-6 for fifth place in the LSC and
9-13 overall.

The men's basketball team will
attempt to sweep the University
of Central Oklahoma Bronchos for
the first time when the teams face
each other Saturday at 8 p.m. in Ed-
mond Okla.
The Wildcats defeated the Bron-
chos 107-101 when the teams
played in Moody Coliseum Jan. 24.
Central Oklahoma leads the all-time
scries 10-7.
The Wildcats must win to have a
chance pf playing a quarterfinal
LSC tournament game in Moody.
They must pass the .Bronchos
who currently are 5-5 for fourth

The women's tennis team
dropped to 3-2 for the season
with an 8-1 loss in a dual match
with Texas Tech University Tues-
day in Lubbock.
ACU .coach Ron Elston said
Texas Tech impressed him. "I've
seen them play well but this is the
best I've seen them play" he said.
Elston said "The highlight for us
was Jennie Light's performance at
No. 3 doubles. She played with
Charlotte Burgess. Both of them
played well but Jennie was partic-
ularly impressive."
Burgess and Light defeated
Texas Tech's team of Misty Porter
and Erica Tarrillion 6-3 6-4.
Light lost a 6-2 6-4 decision to
Porter in singles.
Burgess fell to Lynne Jackson 7-
5 6-1 the only match that required
a tie-breaker.
All matches were completed in
straight sets.

Despite the Wildcats' 1-6 record
coach Bill Gilbreth remained pptii .

going to quit and I refuse to let you
quit" he told the Wildcats after the
games. "If you quit you'll be on the
bench and someone else who won't
quit will be out there."
Gilbreth said the Wildcats have
made progress since the start of the
season.
"Our pitching and defense have
improved tremendously. We have
guys who can hit. We're just not
hitting the ball yet" he said.
The baseball team will attempt to
return to winning ways when the
Wildcats play Dallas Baptist Uni-
versity in doublchcadcrs Friday and
Saturday at 1 p.m.
Week awards helps. Sophomore
forward Jennifer Clarkson won the
award for her performances against
East Texas State University Satur-
day and Texas A&M University-
Kingsville Monday.
Clarkson set a new career scoring
high with 33 points against TAMK.
She has won the award more than
anyone in the conference three
times by herself and one sharing it.
They're going to be
much tougher at
home. When you go
on the road it's a
different story.'

ACU coach Suzanne Fox said
"Jennifer has been playing really
good basketball. She always has
played well on offense and she has
improved tremendously on
defense."
Fox said 3lie and her team will
place in the LSC and 14-8 overall.
ACU is 4-6 for sixth place and II-
12 overall. The Wildcats also will
have the tic-breaker over the Bron-
chos if they win Saturday.
If they tic for fourth place the
Wildcats will play a quarterfinal
tournament game in Moody.
The Wildcats would not have
been able to play a quarterfinal
tournament game at home if they
had not defeated Texas A&M-
Kingsville Monday in Moody Coli-
seum 80-62. The Bronchos fell to
within one game of the Wildcats by
losing to West Texas A&M Univer-
sity Monday in Canyon 99-91.
