A large audience greeted the
Richard Mamlell Company in the
second night of their week's en-
gagement in this city. The play
(presented was “The Belle of Rich-
mond, ” a beautiful Southern story
in four acts. The stage -.ettings,
costumes, etc., were handsome and
elaborate, and the lull brought out
the full strength of the company.
The story is one of Southern
chivalry, love and friendship.
There was nothing of the blood and
thunder order to the piece, but it
was full of heart interest from start
to (inish. Mr. Mandril in the lead-
ing role ol Gerald Gordon deserves
all the nice things that has been
said of his ability as an actor. He
certainly handled his part in a
masterly manner and was ably sup
potted throughout hy the east.
Claude T. Prescott deserves
special mention in his role of
Colonel Lee, a blunt Kentuckian.
The whole company was good for
that matter, and earned the plaud-
its they received. The specialties
by Miss Lueile May and Hairy
Wilson were ically excellent and
were characterized by the absence
of anything approaching coarsene s
or suggestiveness.
The Mandcll Company is above
the average repertoire company in
point of strength, and they have
some entirely new plays in their
repertoire. Tonight “The .Master
Workman,” Monday night’s bill,
will be repeated. This is done
owing to the small attendance
Monday night and also by special
request of a number who were de-
nied tin* pleasure of seeing the
production.
