Rebels Ready For Prairiland
By Marian Green
Yes, it did look like we were going
to get blown away on Friday night,
but we gave Detroit a little surprise.
The Rivercrest football club looked
100% better than last week against
Fannindel.
With each club playing 40 plays, it
giva them both a lot of practice. The
Rebels looked exceptionally good on
offense. The offensive linemen David
Jones (center), Clay Pirtle, Gary
Cheatwood, Clint Bums and Bran-
don Miller did a very good job. The
offense gained right at 300 yards,
which was doubled over last week.
The Rebels scored on the fourth
play on a 40 yard run. Then three
plays later, Tony Sanders scored on a
4-yard run, which was Set up after a
57-yard pass from John Smith to Matt
Childres. As the game progressed,
RHS kept gaining yardage, but never
scored again.
RHS's defense did well, also. Al-
though Coach Green is a little wor-
ried about their tackling. But the
Rebels did have vast improvement.
Tony Sanders did a good job at line-
backer while Jonathan Savage and
Micquail Jackson did a good job also.
The JV played well on Friday night,
beating Boles Home 3-0. "They put
forth great team effort. We had an
excellent line (blocking). We also
had good running from the backs.
We've been working really hard and
I've seen great improvement," said
Coach Wood. The JV is expected to
do a good job this year.
This week Rivercrest plays their
traditional rival, Prairiland, at Prairi-
land at 8 p.m. The JV game will be
played at Rivercrest against Prairi-
land at 7:30 so everyone come out
and support the Rivercrest Rebels.

Booster Club Holds
Tuesday Night Meeting
In one of the more exciting booster
club meetings in a long time River-
RIVERCREST REBELS
played a scrimmage football
game against Detroit last Fri-
day at home. The J V Rebels won
the contest while the V«
Rebels took a thin loss.

crest Football Coach Tommy Green
gave a Booster-Type talk relating to
this week's game at Prairiland. Coach
Green introduced his various assis-
tant coaches, who in turn introduced
respective team members. The Jun-
ior high Squad was introduced by
Coach Wake Wood and Coaches
Eddie Barker and Harvey Slawson
introduced, along with Green, the
Varsity.
Various demonstrations of the
different on field signals given by the
coaches to the players on the field
during the game were explained to
the large crowd of fans and boosters
who gathered in Rivercrest audito-
rium. Green was given a large ova-
tion as he emphasized the desire and
enthusiasm the players and coaches
have shown already this season and
promised the boosters a fun game to
watch this Friday.
In an earlier business meeting the
club heard from SupL Freddy Wade
regarding U.LL. regulations involv-
ing athletes and how they can be
treated no different than any other
student regarding benefits. It had been
advertised last week that the athletes
would be given hamburgers at re-
duced prices at the scrimmage, but
that was changed prior to the supper
as it could have been a UIL violation
if reduced prices had been offered.
Plans for upcoming homecoming
activities of the booster club were
discussed and a committee was to be
appointed to oversee Homecoming
Acitivites relating to the Booster Club.
The Hamburger super sponsored last
week was a success with net profist
exceeding $265.
Prospective new members will
have the opportunity to join at the
New DianaGame next weekat River-
crest. The membership in Rivercrest
Booster Club is like the enthusiasm
for Rebel Footbal...It's getting
stronger every week!
