Delgado's TD passes lead Mustangs to win
Bv Brian J. Smith
Staff Writer
Four first-half TD passes is a
pretty good accomplishment fora
high school quarterback 1 (trow-
ing those same passes in slightly
more than a quarter is something
really special.
Ingleside varsity quarterback
Jimmy Delgado did just that Fri-
day night, as he led the Mustangs
to a 52-12 homecoming drubbing
of West Oso, lifting the Mustangs
to a 4-2 overall mark and 2-1 in
District 30-AAA tilts.
Delgado had a fine night throw-
ing the football, going 9-of-17 for
191 yards. He did have some help,
however, from underclassmen
Andy Martini and Bubba Jackson,
who were at the receiving end of
all four touchdown strikes.
After Scott Carson picked off a
pass from West Oso quarterback
Ruben Saldivar at the Bear 35 to
kill the opening drive, the Mus-
tangs began to move the ball. Two
runs by Jackson set up a 19-yard
scoring pass from Delgado to Mar-
tini, the first of three connections
between the duo.
Eric Edison’s first of seven ex-
tra-point tries gave the Mustangs
a 7-0 lead.
West Oso came storming back,
using a miscue of Ingleside’s, a
Saldivar interception which was
returned to the Mustang 24.
Sophomore Adrian Thompson
needed just one play as he
squirted through a hole and,
thanks to a fine second effort,
burst into the end zone. The ex-
tra-point try failed, but brought
the Bears to within one at 7-6.
It wouldn’t be close for long.
On the ensuing drive, the Mus-
tangs again needed just three
plays to find paydirt. On third-
and-seven at his 23, Delgado rol-
led to his right and found a streak-
ing Jackson with a litle dump
pass.
Without breaking stride, the
sophomore cruised into the end
zone, running past most defen-
ders for the score and a 14-6 lead
with still 4:30 remaining in the
first period.
A Bear miscue set up a Mustang
score on the next drive. After
West Oso got a first down to its 35,
the fumble bug bit the Bears,
which was recovered by Ingleside
at the West Oso 31.
Jackson took the brunt of the
offensive load on the drive, mov-
ing the ball 30 yards to the six
following a penalty. Delgado
threw hard into the end zone, but
the ball bounced off a defender
and... into the hands of Martini

who was running into the play for
the junior’s second score of the
period and a 21-6 lead.
The Ingleside defensive and
offensive lines did magnificent
jobs in setting up scoring oppor-
tunities for the team. To show the
defensive dominance, note that
the Mustangs allowed 157 yards
of total offense, their third
straight game of not allowing an
opponent 200 total yards.
The secondary did not allow
the Bears to complete a single
pass all evening, as West Oso was
0-of-12 for the game. William
Singletary’s interception of Saldi-
var would eventually set up
another score.
With the line opening big holes
for Delgado, he found it very easy
to hook up with receivers George
Baltimore for 15 yards and Marti-
ni for 16 yards and his third score
of the night. Edison’s kick was
good and the lead was 28-6 with
less than a minute gone in the
second quarter.
It was the offensive line that
also opened some nice holes for
Jackson, who also had a fine
night, rushing for 199 yards on 22
carries. For the year, Jackson has
run for more than 800 yards with
four games remaining.
The two teams exchanged pos-
sessions for most of the second
quarter until Ingleside went on a
sustained drive. Jackson gobbled
up the ground while Delgado
completed two passes to Balti-
more to get the ball to the Bear 11.
Jackson did the honors on the
next play to give the Mustangs a
35-6 lead with 2:05 remaining in
the half.
The only scoring of the third
period came after Ingleside mar-
ched 77 yards downfield, but was
stopped as Delgado had two pas-
ses fall incomplete.
Edison came on and booted a
30-yard field goal with 4:37 re-
maining in the period to extend

The Best Place To Carpool
Is To Our House Of Worship
We are continually urged to carpool as
much as possible: to work, on shopping
trips. etc.; to conserve fuel and reduce
traffic congestion. There ore even
specially marked freeway lanes reserved
for cars with two or more occupants.
Of course, carpooling isn't always
possible because of our varied lifestyles.
» but there Is one place to which we can
always share a ride to our House of
Worship. If you hove a neighbor or a
nearby friend who Is not affiliated with
any faith, extend an invitation to go with
you to worship God on the Sabbath day.
That person may be so impressed by the
experience os to return the favor the next
time. In any case, you will both receive
the blessings of the inspiring words of the
sermon, and you will undoubtedly relive
them during your shored ride home
together.
Come all to
church, good
people.
