Lady Jacket seniors seek to finish what they started

regular season behind them the
Howard Payne Lady Jackets
basketball team now places
its focus on the prize that 62
other teams begin chasing this
week: an NCAA Division III
national championship.
A huge reason for the
team's success comes from
the contributions of three
senior starters: Meia Daniels
Stacev Blalock and Kimberlv
Hoffman. The trio has helped
the Lad Jackets win the last
two American Southwest
Conference championships.
They've led the Lady Jackets
to the Sweet 16 of last year's
NCAA III tournament.
This season they want to
advance farther.
Daniels is in her third sea-
son as a starting guard for the
Lady Jackets and has played
in 115 games to date for HPU.
Her accomplishments on the
court include being named
2008 West Division Player of
the Year American Southwest
Conference West Freshman of
the Year all-conference team

Player of the Year this week
as the American Southwest
Conference released its wom-
en's basketball honors teams.
Daniels and Blalock also
were voted to the West
Division First Team as well as
the All-Conference First Team
that combined players from
the West and East divisions.

Daniels owns the career and
single-season steals records for
HPU is third all-time in field
goals and is only 17 points

Daniels leads HPU in scor-
ing at 18.8 points per game
steals at 4.6 per game and in
3-point goals with 53. Blalock
averages 15.8 points and 4.7
rebounds plus she leads the
Lady Jackets in blocked shots
with 49.
HPU forward Kim Hoffman
was voted to the West Division
Second Team. The 5-foot-10
senior averages 12.7 points
and a team-leading seven
shy of breaking the 2000-
point mark for her career.
Blalock is in her third sea-
son as the starting center and
has played in 112 games as
a Lady Jacket. Blalock has
been named 2008 ASC West
Division Defensive Player of
the Year third-team All-South
rebounds.
HPU's Katy Sarem was
voted to the West Division
Freshman Team. The 5-foot-4
guard averages 5.4 points and
2.3 rebounds.
Hermann voted to West
Division First Team
Howard Payne post Tom
Hermann was voted to
the American Southwest
Conference West Division First
Team this week. The 6-foot-5
junior averaged a team-high
16.9 points and 5.9 rebounds
this season.
HPU guard Brock Woods
was voted to the West Division
Region first-team ASC West
Division and ASC Player of
the Week several times. She
currently ranks seventh all-
time in scoring at HPU.
Blalock's 6-foot-2 presence
under the basket has made the
Lady Jackets' zone defense
one of the best in the nation.
Honorable Mention Team as
well as the West Division
Defensive Team. The 6-4 soph-
omore averaged 7.6 points 5.8
rebounds and 4.6 assists this
season.
Jackets reach ASC semifinals
after shocking Miss. College
Howard Payne the No. 4
seed from the West Division

pion Mississippi College 94-
90 in overtime Friday in the
quarterfinals of the American
Southwest Conference Men's
Tournament in Belton.
The Jackets saw their sea-
son end with a 105-92 loss

sons in Lady Jackets history

the Lady Jackets fun to watch
in the coming years.

season with a 14-13 record.
Against Mississippi College
post Tom Hermann finished
with 25 points and eight
rebounds. Deandry McDaniel
also scored 25 points and made
five of six 3-point shots. As a
team the Jackets made 10 of
1 5 3-pointers.
Against Concordia Hermann
scored 34 points on 13-of-21
shooting from the field while
Lee Scott added 20 points. The
Jackets lost to Concordia three
times this season allowing
more than 1 00 points twice.
