CINDERMEN SET SIGHTS
ON TEXAS RELAYS CUP
AUSTIN The Abilene Christian College Wildcats have
set their sights on the Texas Relays here today and tomorrow
and expect to score hits especially in the relay events.
There is a possibility that the record of 1383 entries in the
giant meet will be surpassed this year.
FEATURED IN the meet will be
such track luminaries as Ernie
Cunliffe Stone Johnson Al Law-
rence and Earl Young all of
whom participated In the 1060
Olympics and Eddie Southern
who was In the 1050 Olympics.
In the 440-yard and mile relays
the Wildcats will be the top con-
tenders since they recorded the
fastest collegiate mile relay time
in the nation with a 3:08.9 clock-
Students not able to attend
the meet will be able to listen
on radio. Radio station
KWKC will broadcast the
meet starting at) 7tl5 p.m.
Friday and 1:30 p.m. Satur-
day. Ing last Saturday at the San
Angelo relays. The Cats also re-
corded a 40.1 time In the 440-
yard relay for the fastest time in
the nation this season.
THE 880-yard relay time of
1:25.2 recorded by ACC this sea-
son puts it in good standing for
the top stop in that event too.
In the 180-yard high hurdles
Calvin Cooley will be entered.
Dennis Richardson and Bud Tay-
lor will be entered In the 100-yard
dash and John Lawler will be
entered In the 3000-meter steple-
chase. Loroy Culver will be entered in
the pole vault while Rayford Mc-
Ilhancy will be entered in the
shot put and the discus.
AOC's 440-yard relay team will
be made up of Cooley Richard-
son McKennon will bOjthe fourth
man. The mile relay team will be
composed of RichardsonTj'McKen-
non Clanton and Young?! r '
In the distance medley relay
Taylor Elvis Istre Denis Moore
and John Lawler will be entered.
The two mile relay team will be
composed of James Blackwood
Istre Lawler and either Joe
Robins or Emmott Essin.
DENIS MOORE. ACCian from
Australia will run in the 5000-
moter run. Others in the run will
be Australian Al Lawrence of
Houston; Englishman Fred Norrls
of McNecse State; Pole John
Mach from Houston; and Al Tino-
co of Mexico.
Stone Johnson Eddie Southern
and Don Stryon will participate
in a special open 100-meter dash.

DEFEAT BAYLOR
The Abilene Christian tennis
team defeated Baylor 4-3 in a
dual tennis match Monday after-
noon on the Wildcat courts.
In singles Richard McBrice
Don Avera and Bob Hunter took
wins.
McBrice defeated Gary Kelsy
3-6 6-4 6-1.
Avera defeated Bill McCleary
8-6 3-6 6-1.
Hunter defeated Herb Schwet-
man 6-1 6-3.
Don Mordecal defeated ACC's
Nell Carroll 7-5 3-6 7-5 and Mal-
colm Woolley defeated Kent Co-
molli 3-6 6-3 6-3.
In number one doubles play
Mordecal and Kelsy defeated Car-
roll and Comolll 8-6 6-1. McBride
and Avera defeased McCleary and
Woolley in number two doubles.
The Wildcats will go to Den-
ton for a match with North Texas
State on April 10.
Cats Slip by Tarleton
For Season's Second Win
Staving off a ninth inning rally
the Abilene Christian baseball
team defeated Tarleton State Col-
lege 5-4 for its second win of the
year last Tuesday.
One week earlier the Plowboys
had plowed the Wildcats under
11-2. ACC's season record is now
2-6.
In the ninth Inning with ACC
leading 5-4 and with two outs re-
lief pitcher Dwaln Hargesheimer
loaded the bases then freshman
Sam Carpenter was called to the
hill to stiffle Tarloton. Carpenter
worked to a full count on left
fielder Ben Crawyer then whif-
fed over the game ending pitch
that caught Crawyer looking.
GARY MeCALEB and Joel Gil-
bert each knocked in two runs for
McCalob rapped out two singles
while Gilbert pasted a homer.
Pitcher Todd Miller was credited
with the ACC win bringing his
record to 1-3.
In the first inning Ron Martin
reached first when the second
baseman booted his grounder and
scored when the third baseman
missed a high pop-up by Ray
Fulenwider.
TARLETON scored its first run
in the top of the third when Ver-
non Gunn singled was moved to
second by Kenneth Floyd's single

way track meet held March 25 in Wildcat Stadium. In the quad-
rangular meet ACC hosted the University of Houston Texas
Tech and the University of Minnesota. Richardson will run
in the 100-yard dash at the Texas Relays this week-end.

Jerry Herring reached first on a
fielders choice. With two outs
Gilbert then whacked his round

In the fourth Ray Fulenwider
led off the inning with a singlo
and moved to second on George
Ezell's single. The runners ad-
vanced when Martin walked then
Fulenwider and Ezell scored on
McCaleb's liner to left field.
It was three up three down for
the Wildcats in the fifth and
sixth while they could get no
more than four batters up In the
seventh and eighth.
Tarleton loaded the bases in the
on a hit a walk and an error but
Brock grounded out to end the
inning. In the seventh Dunlap
trippled to start the inning and
