"I thought at first the new mem-
bers would be freshmen interested in
pre-law but really it's Juniors and
seniors who are getting serious about
going to law school."
The ACU Student Bar is unique
because ACU is one of the few schools
that offers on-campus recruiting to
its pre-law majors.
"Out of every sue people who apply
to law school one is accepted"
Cawthon says. "So there isn't much
need to recruit students. Baylor only
goes to three or four schools. For
people interested in law school the
Student Bar is the only place to get
help"

The mock LSAT class will be of-
fered by the Stanley Kaplan Testing
Group in October.
"The class will cost about $400 and
75 is refunded but it's very well
worth It" said Cawthon. "When you
are trying to get into law school they
only look at two things: your GPA
and your LSAT score. If you're on the
border line with your GPA and your
LSAT score Is not very high they'll
throw you out."
The internship program is in the
early stages and the association is
trying to work through the univer-
sity's attorneys to get students some
experience in the legal environment
he'said.

Dr. Chris WlUcrton honors

deportment is the new director (jf tlte
Texas Reading Circuit. WUJcrton said
he became director when the
program started this fall
This is tho first time the program'.'
has been headquartcd at ACU said .
Willertdn. Previously the
headquarters were at Sam Houston
State University he said ;
Willerton's main duty as director is
to bring literary writers poets and;
critics to speak at ACU and the other -schools
involved in tho circuit The
program was set up to enable
students to hear widely acclaliriod.;
literary writers critics and poets
from around the country. Wilierton.
has sent inquiry letters to writers
from as far as California to Maine.
Most are either Pulitzer Prize win-
ners or regional writers who are
building their reputation. Thirteen
schools at present arc included in the'
TRC three of which have just joined'
in the past year said Wilierton.
Wilierton said his new position'
requires not only a great amount of
time but also office space telephone-
use and postage for the position to bo '
run properly.
The director said he Is "being
optimistic because it Is so full of.
possibilities." Along with adding
possibilities the Texas Kwdiafe '
Circuit is ake "extending the
prestige of ACU" by new laving the
headquarters located here on cam-
pus said Wilier ton.
The TRC was founded in 1978 by
the Texas AaaecJaUea of Creative
Writing teachers. Wilierton said the
program has bees fairly consistent
since it first began.
The program is divided into three
planning stages. The first Is the
inquiry stage which is where the
program is at the present time The
remaining stages deal with
correlating the schedules of the
writers with the schools and then
finalizing an arrangement. Wilierton
said he hoped to have a reader to visit
five schools in the fall and to have
readers visit three schools in the
spring.
The Texas Commission on the Arts
and the National Endowment for Arts
provide funds for the Texas Reading
Circuit said Wilierton.
