Mark Wltherspoon a senior from
Chicago with a time of 10.2.

"Rafael was very impressive in the

to see some really good things from
him."
The meet was a good chance for the
Wildcats to get out and see what they
have going for them this year. "The
times were good but they weren't
great" said Hood. "Overall though
itwasa good meet for us."
Hood said the team showed the
most progress in the long runs during
the meet.
The ACU men's basketball team will
open up tiro season Saturday at 7 p.m.
against number one ranked East
Texas State University in Moody
Coliseum in a non-conference game.
Head coach Mike Martin said the
team is in a hungry state and ready to
play. Tho Wildcats have been In
practice since the middle of October.
Now they are watering their mouths
at the chance to put that practice into
action.
"We are expecting a heck of a ball
game" said Martin. "We've got
some tough competition ahead of us."
East Texas was ranked number one
in the LSC basketball poll last week.
ACU was ranked third behind Angclo
State.
ETSU has three returning starters
this year. Tony Cogcr Merritt
Williams and Mike Miller return this
year and arc expected fo play a vital
role In the East Texas attack. The
Lions also have a number of Junior
College players on the team this year.
However Uie Wildcats are hoping
to be prepared for the opponents visit
to Moody.
"We've been working towards a
faster tempo on offense" said
Martin. "We really are going to speed
up on our of f ense."
The Wildcat defense hopes to put a
stop to the Lion offensive attack by
way of intense pressure. "We arc
going to really go after them" said
Martin. The defense will be more
pressure oriented than it has in the
past and will hopefully cause some
great disturbances in its opponents
offense.

This year's Wildcat schedule wijl
prove to be a tough one for Uie team

they get almost a two month heap

against a team that has just started
play can pull some surprises. !
"You can lift run and strengthen
