Students to get a taste of culture

Union will be among a few countries
represented Tor the first time at Taste
A Culture '85 a Mission Outreach-
sponsored activity where students will
have the chance to sample foods from
countries around the world.
Alisha Goldman a member of the
Mission Outreach committee planning
the event said 24 countries in six con-
tinents represented by 50 to 60 people
who will prepare and serve food from
the various countries Friday at 6 p.m.
in the West Dining Room of the Bean.
The United States will be
represented for the first time by the
Coca-Cola Bottling Company said
Goldman. "We thought 'What's more
American than Coke?' and the Coke
company agreed so we will have a
fountain at the event." The fountain is
being provided for a nominal fee by
the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in
Abilene.
The Soviet Union also will be
represented for the first time. Charles
Randall sophomore undecided major
from- Vancouver British Columbia
will represent the Soviet Union. Ran-
dall lived in Russia working with the
Canadian consulate in Leningrad
Goldman said.
Japan will be represented for the
first time in several years. Yoshihiro
Mitani graduate general business ma-
jor from Tochigi-Ken Japan will be
representing his country. Jenifer Wolf
graduate psychology major from
Lyons Kan. also will -represent
Japan.

Language week starts

"Bonjourl" or "Guten Tagl" instead
of the usual "Hi how's it going?"
your friend may be celebrating Na-
tional Foreign Language Week.
National Foreign Language Week
March 4-8 will be celebrated at ACU
with foreign film showings a recep-
tion for foreign language students and
a special foreign language Chapel said
W. "Valdy" Eichmann chairman of
the foreign language department.
David Stubbeman mayor of
Abilene. officially declared March 4-8
Foreign Language Week in Abilene
Thursday morning.
Monday Tuesday and Wednesday
at noon a foreign film will be shown in
the Main Room of the Campus
Center said Eichmann.
"The Red Balloon" or "Le Balon
Rouge" will be shown Monday said
Eichmann. The French film won first
place in the Cannes Film Festival.
The film has no dialogue and shows
"the clever way in which a message is
gotten across without saying a word"
said Eichmann.
Tuesday's movie will be "The
Triumph of the Will" said Eichmann.
The film is German with English sub-
titles and deals with the Nazi regime
said Eichmann.
A selection of short classics by Fran-
cois TrufTaut the innovative French
director will be shown Wednesday.
La Tertulia ACU's Spanish Club
will sponsor a reception Monday in
celebration of National Foreign
Language Week said Brown. All
foreign language students are invited
to attend. The reception begins at 7
p.m. in Room 131 of the Administra
tion Building said Alisha Goldman
