Today in our fait paced society It seems we do not have time for
anything.
We have Polaroid camaras Cliff Notes and instant oatmeal.
We tend to go for the easier way of doing things and sadly this pat-
tern has followed through in our relationships.
We do not accept people as individuals any more.
Jocks are all hands no intelligence. Blondes have more fun.
Lawyers will do anything for a buck.
There are a million ways to generalize but let's try to hit a little
closer to home.
If we join a fraternity or sorority we have to consider what kind of
reputation goes along with it.
The girls say they won't go out with a certain guy because he is in-
volved in a certain athletic event.
What about the "religious freaks"? Certainly they never do
anything but go to revival meetings and shout "Praise God!" as they
pound their 10 pound Bible.
Of course there is the loner who wears glasses and likes his com-
puter; surely he is a little strange.
The list could go on forever and I have found through examining
my own thoughts that we never really give people a chance.
You might know something about me that your best friend told you
that his suitemate's sister's aunt told him so tbat by the time you ac-
tually meet me you have all these preconceived ideas and notions
which may or may not be true.
We need to slow down and take time to get to know people for who
they really are - not for the organization the represent.
We need to look behind the glasses or whatever kind of prop that is
being used to characterize them and then see who they really are.
.' Maybe the.rich girl isn't a snob after all rather a bit shy.
I believe that if we look at people as Jesus did our concepts would
change drastically. Jesus loved Mary Magdalene one that we would
say in our modern day is a prostitute.
Jesus not only loved but became close Intimate friends with Mat-
thew a tax collector who was hated above all others.
If we look to Jesus' answer and love even those who are unlovely
we could make Hardln-Simmpns so much more enjoyable!

Letter from the editor
The Brand is here. Yes we will be having a Brand this year!
After many long hours of typing writing headlines losing X-acto knives
grabbing volunteers off the street (Thanks Sarah Jones!) etc. etc. it's off
to the press.
As every new editor says every year it's harder than I thought it would
be to get this paper out on the stands.
Really though it was fun anyway and I think this year will be a great
learning experience for me.
There are lots of good stories to check out in this issue as well as some
new features.
We have an article on page three about the new faculty at HSU. Next
week we'll focus on the new staff.
Randy White writes a column called "As I See It" about current business
issues.
"Look what we're doing now..." is about alumni that made it in the world.
Yes folks there is life after graduation.
I hope you enjoy the cartoons. We tried pizza a la mode tonight (last
night?) while we were putting the paper together. You should try it
sometime...
Seniors don't forget to get your degree audits. You might be in a heap of
trouble without it.
Scotta Morris has a lot of good things to say about stereotypes (see
above) Personally I would like to say a word about stereotypes.
I just got married this summer and I would like to tell all of you who have
friends in that position something.
Married students are still human. They like to have fun have friendr
and do most of the same things they did before they were married.
Don't forget your married friends! And now I'll get off my soapbox.
Happy reading may you have a wonderful school year... and good night
