Port Aransas Texas is
preparing for its annual
deluge. Hurricane season is
close but this storm is com-
ing from inland as spring

college students from across
the nation on the small town.
Lynette Nolte of the Port
Aransas Chamber of Com-
merce said that they are ex-
pecting 100000 students bet-
ween March 10-26. Thai figure
is well over 30 times the
town's permanent population.
Speaking of changes in
preparation for this year's spr-

Poet Hudgins to give
SeSSiOnS On hiS WOrk
The English Department of
Hardin-Simmons University is
inviting the public to hear
poet Andrew Hudgins read
from his poetry and discuss
writing.
Hudgins who is an
Associate Professor of
English at the University of
Cincinnati will give the
reading in the Duffy

Library on Monday March 13.
There will be two sessions.
The earlier one from 3:30-4:30
p.m. will be a question and
celebrates as
have set up four-lane driving
between Road 1A and Lan-
tana Street. With two lanes
going south and two north
Nolte says they hope to avoid
the hours-long traffic jams
created as people stopped to
converse.
The town is planning enter-
tainment also. A volleyball
tournament will be arranged
between schools present. On
March 19 Joan Jett will be in
concert with guest Joe King
Carrosco and the Crowns of
Austin Texas.
Port Aransas' local chapter
of Keep Texas Beautiful is
asking students to retain their
aluminum cans and bring
them to their recycling dock
located at the IGA Family
Center Grocery on Alister
Street. Every day from 11 a.m.
to 5 p.m. students can
receive cash for their cans
and keep the beaches safe
and clean.
The Port Aransas Clean
Team also reminds students
that no glass is allowed on
the beach so as to prevent in-
juries. Nolte said the main thing is
for students to obey the
beach regulations. "We're out
a lot of money to protect
them" she said. "Everything
here is being done for their
benefit. ..and we look forward
to seeing them."
Asked about last year's
violence Nolte said she felt
the media inflated the inci-
dent. "Our problem down
here is not with spring
breakers-it's with the people
who follow a big group like
that. We don't anticipate
anything" she said.

For those heading down to
South Padre Island there will
be plenty of activity as this
annual social rite known as

Beyond all the activities
planned by the area's local

As a history major I do take
exception to the costumes. I

them and was told they were
Romanesque in nature. I have
to admit ignorance because I
never heard of Romanesque

was just an architectural
style.
If the costumes do come'

they are still inaccurate. The
