Pokes Tribe To Clash
In Coyote Stadium Tilt
j?Qnt
SHADES OP MODEL T We did for the first time last
week end get to watch Ken Ford of the Breckenridge High
School Buckaroos in action. Like his brother John (Model T)
Ford who gained national stardium with the H-SU Cowboys
Ken Ford can really throw that ball.
While the Abilene High School-Breckenridge High tilt was
going on last week in Parramore Stadium we were surprised
with the accuracy of Ford's passing. And that boy can he run
with the ball too something that brother John never did do
with much success.'
Hn fact Ken reminds us a lot of Sammy Baugh the way he
looks runs and throws. You can bet your bottom dollar that all
the coaches in the Southwest have got their eye on Mr. Ken
Ford.
Sad part about it for the coaches at least he's just a junior
in high schol this year. He led Breckenridge to the state cham-
ship last year as a sophomore !

INTRAMURAL FOOTBALL started this week with the
games being played on the Ferguson Hall intramural field.
Haven't had a chance to talk with Otho Polk head of the P. E
department but imagine that a pretty good league has been
set up.
Know that there six teams in the one league and one game
is played each day at 4 p. m. Intramural football brings back a
lot of memories to us at least. Remember the old Bootleggers?
Rustlers? And names like Berry Appling Sam Morris Travis
Hendrick Bill Tolbert and we couldn't leave out J. B. Gibbs.
Remeber 'emt
PFC. JERRY BRUMBELOW who a lot of you remember
sent Kenneth Hill Jr. a letter this week from the front lines in
Korea. Jerry had found a picture of Coach Murray Evans plus
a story on the Cowboys in the Pacific issue of the "Stars and
Stripes" official United States military newspaper.
Jerry said that lie got quite a lift from seeing Evans and
the article in Korea. Also understand that Joe Harris of Arkan-
sas is down in Korea on the front lines.
RADIO STATION KRBO is going to do a wire report on
the H-SU Santa Clara game played in California Nov. 1. Ken
j Cariter will be doing the play-by-play; so you won't miss a
tiling that week end.
DOUBLE DUTY D. C. ANDREWS stops a high flier flung from
the powerful arm of Ogden Compion one of the ace quarterbacks
for the Cowboys for the first TD of the encounter between the H-SU
Cowboys and the Trinity Tigers. Jack Lester No. 63 is the last
Tiger between Andrews and the double stripe. Andrews who earned
a letter last year strictly as a defensive man leads the Cowboys in
pass receiving with 12 grabs good for 183 yards and two touch-
downs. He plays both on the defensive and offensive as left end.

Andrews Demonstrates
Ability On Offense Play
D. C. Andrews six-foot 190-
pound junior from Sweetwater
whom a lot of experts are already
comparing with Ed Sprinkle as
one of the all-time defensive
greats at Hardin-Simmons Uni-
versity has demonstrated in the
Pokes' first three games that he
is also an offensive man.

t t0 make this S o'clock claw."
The Border Conference copped
all banners this week by having
four players take the spotlight in
the field of rushing; Beasley of
Arizona University ranking 2nd
with 358 yards Curran and Wah-
lin of Arizona (Tempe) ranking
5th and 18th having 316 yards
and 248 yards respectively.
But that is just three isn't it?
In looking for the fourth one
we don't even have to leave our
own 40 acres. Because right here
in our own Parramore stadium
last Saturday night there was a
sophomore' who bears the name
of Ramming Rod around here
hailing from the Capitol City of
Austin who broke into the spot-
light by ranking 10th in the top
twenty on the field of rushing.
Lettered Last Season
Rodney Williams who lettered
last season as a uefensive man
along with nursing a fractured
ankle set sail for 163 yards and
two touchdowns in 28 tries
against the Tigers last Saturday
night.
He now has a record of 46 car-
ries for 288 yards and three
touchdowns. Williams who
stands about 5-9 and weighs 178
got his first opportunity to tote
the pigskin against Tulsa two
weeks back and he promptly
went for 125 yards and a toch-
down in 18 tries.
Austin Flash -
The Austin flash did not see
any service in the Cowboys'
opening game with Arizona
State of Tempe but in two
games he has averaged 144 yards
which at the rate he is going
would give him 1296 yards for
the season which would be sec-
ond in the history of- the Cow-
boys with Dunny Goode (who
ranked second in the nation in
rushing last year with 1399
yards) being the top man on the
totem pole.
With seven games yet to be en-
countered by the Cowboys great
deal of confidence is being put in
a young Cowboy by the name of
Ramming Rod from Austin.
The Cowboys are in. Wichita
Falls Saturday night to meet the
Midwestern Indians on their own
battle-field in an inter-conference
contest.
Hardin-Simmons met Mid-
western for the first time last
year outscoring the Tribe 32-21
dn Coyote Stadium. James Cox
accounted for 160 yards on 13
tries and set up two touchdowns.
Dunny Goode scored three time's
and Bill Davis tallied two.
Midwestern led scoring in the
first 7-0. Goode's score in the
second tied it and his two plunges
for TDs in the third along with.
Davis' couple in the second and
fourth outscored the Indians.
Midwestern failed to knot the
count in the fourth scoring twice.
Lettermen Missing
The 1952 editon of the Tribe
will trod the sod absent the ser-
vices of several but 25 lettermen
are returning. Among the pro-
minent returning lettermen are
Rudy Dendall and Gene Millsap
at guard and center.
Maxie Vestal returns to hold
down his left end post while Jack
Jones and Jim Butler will share
the other terminal. Jess Stiles
205 All-Conference guard spear-
heads the returning linemen who
include Millsap Rendall Louis
Boynton Joe Douglas Don
Granger Posey Lambert John
Soria Floyd Styles Bill Hunter
uietus bchenK lvan .Edwards
and Jimmy Phillips.
The Indians and Cowboys clash
at 8 p. m.
Riddle Is Tops
In Offense Yards
Jim Riddle senior letternian
quarterback from Wichita Falls
is the total offensive leader for
the Cowboys with a total of 292
yards marked up in three games.
But Riddle who has accounted
for 232 of his yards by passing
tops sophomore halfback Rod
Williams by only four yards. Wil-
liams has seen service in only two
games. Against Tulsa when he
got his first chance as a ball car-
rier this season Williams gather-
ed in 125 yards and a touchdown.
Last Saturday against Trinity he
broke away for 168 yards and two
more TDs in 28 carries for a two-
game total of 288 yards a healthy
144 average per game.
Ogden Compton senior from
Dallas who alternates with Rid-
dle at quarterback is third in
total offense with 19 yards. He
has passed for 204 yards but has
a minus 11 rushing. He has pitch-
ed all three of H-SU's scoring
passes this season.
Another soph J. C. Collins of
Fort Worth is second in rushing
with 146 yards on 24 carries an
average of better than six yards
per try.
TOM HALE LEADS
H-SU GOLF TEAM
Tom Hale sophomore from
Shamrock will captain the Har-
din - Simmons University golf
team this season.
As a freshman last season Hale
posted the medalist score in the
Border Conference meet. The
Cowboys have won the confer-
ence title for the last two years.

turning lettermen eight fresh-
men and one junior college trans-
fer. '
