Hardin-Simmons' favored Cow-
boys scored a decisive win over
Trinity University Saturday
night crossing the Tiger stripe in
all four periods to defeat the
Gulf Coast foe 33-7.
The Cowboys' first score came
on their second series of downs
after a Tiger punt rolled dead on
the mid-stripe. Rodney Williams
ran the ball to the 37 in two tries
and J. C. Collins carried to the

Trinity began the second quar-

outstanding freshman player last season and is one of Murray Evans'

Fitzgerald's Favorites
Last weekend proved disheart-
ening for us because every team
we picked to win lost and fin-
ished the week with 20 right and
10 wrong almost as many wrong
last week as we had mistaken tne
two previous weeks. But never-
theless we have 61 right and 21
wrong over a three weeks period
for a .756 average.
H-SU takes over Midwestern
this week end 27-7. Makes it two
in a row for the Pokes. '
COLORADO stops Arizona this
weekend 21-14.
ARKANSAS should knock off
Baylor in a good tilt. Final 14-7.
CALIFORNIA and Oregon bat-
tle it out on the West Coast. We
like the Golden Bears 27-13.
DUKE should be able to han-
dle South Carolina 33-7.
GEORGIA TECH and Tulane in
a Southern battle. Tech 17-7.
TULSA and Houston swing into
action in a close one. We'll stay
with the Hurricane 21-19.
KANSAS over Iowa State 33-
21.
L. S. U. and Kentucky get to-
gether in a toss-up game but we
like the Louisiana boys one point
better 14-13.
MICHIGAN takes Indiana 27-0.
MICHIGAN STATE and Texas
A. & M. go but it's State the
winner 21-7.
MISSISSIPPI and Vanderbilt
in a good one. Final: 27-20.
S. M. U. should take Missouri
okay 14-0.
NAVY over William & Mary

NORTH CAROLINA should ov-
erpower North Carolina State 27-
7. NOTRE DAME still riding high
after last week's win. This time
the victim is Pittsburg 34-7.

TEXAS over Oklahoma. We'll
still stick with the Longhorns
but it'll be close 10-7.
WISCONSIN should have an
easy time with Ohio State 21-6.

Franklin's boys one touchdown

U. C. L. A. and Bice tangle but
after last week's showing we'll
take the California lads 21-14.

TENNESSEE and Chattanooga
T. C. U. and Trinity clash with
the Horned Frogs winning 33-7.
TEXAS TECH and Texas West-
ern in a BC game 48-7.
The 3-A boys commonly known
as the water boys or the 49ers
around Ferguson Hall soaked up
the Choir boys 13-6 in the first
game of the intramural football
of 1953. The 3-A boys entered the
contest as underdogs due to the
lack of practice on their part and
the well experienced boys of the
choir.
During the second game of the
year the crowd that usually wit-
nesses an intramural game saw
the Fly Boys get grounded be-
hind a 39-6 strong wind by the
Ramblers. The Ramblers were
Pokes Set New Defense
Record Against Trinity
The Hardin-Simmons Univer-
sity Cowboys who depend heav-
ily upon freshmen to man re-
serve positions on the defense
established a new defensive re-
cord against Trinity last Satur-
day. The Cowboys threw the Tigers
for a loss of 69 yards in holding
the San Antonio team to a net
of 114 yards.
The Cowboys racked Baylor
for a loss of 63 yards in 1942.

the Brand has received a Second
Class Honor Rating from the
Associated Collegiate Press's col-
lege newspaper judging service.
The first semester Brand rated a
First Class rating.

penalty against H-SU. Trinity
tallied from the 2 after a bril-
liantly executed pass. Hardin-
Simmons led Trinity at halftime
14-7.
Takes Over On Downs
H-SU received to begin the last
half and moved the ball to the 13
before Trinity took over on
downs. Trinity fumbled on the
24 to set the Cowboys in position
and Williams carried to the 6. On
4th down lacking a couple of feet
for a touchdown the Cowboys
were halted.
Trinity took possession work-
ing the ball .to the 7 before punt
ing to the H-SU 4d.
Collins and two Riddle to Lyssy
passes set up the next pay-off
play from the 4 Williams carry-
ing. The point after touchdown
attempt failed.
In Final Period
Williams set up and scored the
Cowboy touchdown halfway
through the final period with
gains of 16 and 12. Again the ex-
tra point try was no good. The
Cowboys held a comfortable 26-7
margin.
The Cowboys wound up scor-
ing in the last minute of play
with James Cox placing the ball
on the 6 running consecutive
from the 36. Cox punched over in
two plays. Jimmie Comancho converted.
