lod the meeting to order and Mrs.
Samuel Perlman led the group in
prayer.
Discussion for the meeting was
centered on civil defense plans for
school children. The Carthage
school administrators, headed by
Q M Martin, outlined the plan
nmg of the scboOls Sheets of in-
structions and suggestions have
been sent to all teachers, and
other shoots are ready to be sent
to parents.
Because the school plans are lied
to the city traffic program, J. L.
Bunyard. who is Civil Defense Co-
ordinator for Carthage and Panola
County, was present. He told of
some of the preliminary communi-
ty plans and revealed that Carth-
age has direct two way radio com-
munication with Battlecreeh. Mich-
igan, and Denver, Colorado, the
two national Civil Defense centers.
Robert Pike called attention to
"Fallout Protection”, a booklet a-
vailable from the Post Office De-
partment. He stressed the need
for a two-hour "crash" course on
civil defense. Both the regular
course on civil defense and the
first aid course will be given a-
gain when enough people register.
Mrs W. L. Tatum, City Council
Chairman of Civil Defense, asked
all unit presidents to urge mem-
bers to take these two courses. It
is of utmost importance that as
many people as possible in the
community have the knowledge of
these courses. Mrs. Tatum also a-
greed to oversee planning for the
suggested two-hour “crash" aourse.
