WAREHOUSE DESTROYED — Chief Deputy Sheriff W, H.
(Bill) Sage surveys ruins of the Anadarko Production Co. ware-
house, located north of Highway 302 west of Kermit, which
was destroyed by fire late Monday night or early Tuesday.
Bill McGuire, local superintendent for Anadarko, reported to
the Winkler County Sheriff’s Department that the two-room
warehouse was broken into and vandalized before it was burned.
Sage, who investigated the incident, said the fire, which del
stroyed company tools and supplies, in addition to the ware-
house itself, was probably set by the vandals. (Staff Photo)

Marriage licenses ran far
ahead of divorces granted in
Winkler County in 1968, accord,
ing to tabulations made Tues.
day.
Marriage licenses issued dur-
ing the year in the office of
County Clerk Fred Adams total-
ed 109 as compared with 97 in
1967. But, neither year reached
the 111 licenses issued in 1966.
Divorces granted, as recorded
in the files of District Clerk
Marion Ellis, came to 32.
The Month of December edged
out the traditional month of June
for brides.
Fifteen couples bought marri-
age licenses in December, with
13 recorded for June, a tie with
the month of May, also totaling
13.
January of 1968 was a slow
month, with only one license
issued. February had eight;
March, six; April, 11; July, 10;
August, 11; September, eight;

struck the rear of the 1967 Ford
driven by Mrs. Willhelm.
Patrolman Smith said the ac-
cident was reportedly caused
by an unknown vehicle which
was proceeding south on Poplar
in front of Mrs. Willhelm's car.
The unidentified vehicle was re-
ported to have stopped suddenly,
causing Mrs. Willhelm's car
to also come to an abrupt stop.
Then Mrs. Willhelm’s auto was
struck by Miss Garrison’s car.
Patrolman Smith estimated the
damage to Mrs. Willhelm’s car
at $250 and to Miss Garrison’s
car at $150.
Because of the nature of the
accident, no citations were Is-
sued.
No injuries were reported.

Highway Safety
Development of breakaway
nickel stainless steel lightpoles,
which shear at their base when
struck by a car, promises in-
creased highway safety. Exten-
sive tests have shown that dam-
age to a car, after collision, is
minimal and tne driver remains
unhurt and in control of the auto-
mobile. The first major installa-
tion of such safety poles has been
made by the Minnesota State
Highway Department.
