ASH GROVE HAPPENINGS.
Old brother Chism came out a
few day’s ago and steered the Court
Ship of Mr. Mike Darter and Miss
Lena Skaggs into the sea of Mat-
rimony.
May they in sailing o’er this sea
To tempests ne’er fall martyrs,
And may’ the blessings on them be
A score of little Darters.
I don’t know much about this
couple. Mike used to be a very in-
dustrious boy’. Henry Kelly-
bought some household and kitch-
en furniture last week. This looks
a little suspicious as he lives with
his parents and his mother has a
good cook stove and about four
good cooks. If all signs didn’t
fail in dry weather, I should^ say
we will have another wedding
close by’ us in the near future.
The weather is beautiful and
y as water haulers could wish.
Some cotton to pick yet but the
business is slowly’ drawing to close.
John Daugherty is gathering
corn four miles South of Ector,
for which he pay’s. 45c a bushel.
Chicken stealing is reported
lively around here. Mrs. Ware
claims to have lost about 200 chick-
ens and-two fine turkeys recently.
Tom Ware has sold his farm
near here for $33 1-3 per acre and
is now prospecting in Oklahoma.
More land has been sold around
here recently than I ever knew in
one season before, and two or three
small farms are yet offered for sale.
I don’t know what is the -matter
with my’ neighbors, nearly’
them want to leave. I cAme’to
stay until the undertaker calls for
me, and am in no hurry about it.
I see it is reported a man must
be sober to get a marriage license
in New Jersey. That is hard on
Mademoiselles of the hobble skirt
genus. No sober man would ask
for a license to marry’ one of them.
I very much doubt -the sobriety
of the senses of a man who would
marry a woman of the awning hat
genus.
Well if your Arabian Knight
writer of Virginia Point wants to
help me eat sweet potatoes he had
better hurry up. We have divided
out with the neighbors till they
are nearly all gone. What is left
of them is “awful” good.
Well, Colquitt is elected but the
vote he got furnishes food for re-
flection. This part of Texas don’t
vote the whisky ticket. If some '
of us can’t vote like we pray we
wont vote at all. The democrats
have a majority in congress once
! more, but I fear it will verify’ Gen.
Grant’s statement that when the
| democrats get in power they’ can
always be counted cn to do some
fool thing.
