HOW WOMEN TAKE CRITICISE
-'r
Oppoptenltf - of a §
Lifetime.
THIS MEANS YOU
There never was a better time in the
history of Aransas Pass to buy property
than now. There, is. no IF about the prop-
osition. It is one of the most positive and
best K opportunities for, investment to be
found anywhere in the UNITED STATES.
He who runs may r^ad, and the fellow
who invests his money now, must and ' will
reap large returns in the very near future.
We have clients who will build modern
brick buildings in the business center to suit
tenants. Address,
W. ':M
Former Editor of London Times, in
Answer to Protest Against Review,
Tells Sex’s Weakness.
' In “The Life of. John Oliver
HLj Hobbs,” edited by her father, John
iff Morgan (Richards', there is. a slasbirig
|| arraignment of the literary woman.
§§ ! in foer . attitude toward 'those, who
0 criticise her work. It is from" foe-
ill ' gen of Moberly Bel], foe fatiions'‘edi-
|| it.or. qf, tlie.'Londqn Time's. Moberly | &
||; Bell and Mrs.-Craigic were personal j |
|| | friends, and the latter wrote' protest-
1 ; Ihg; against the treatment ■ hat '•''live
* | Flute of Pan” had received, at the
|| ; hands of the Times reviewers. In
response the editor wrote in part:
“There is one thing and only one
thing that the Omnipotent has abso-
lutely failed to create. He has made
good women, bad women, clever
worpen, silly women, selfish women,
and heroines of self-sacrifice, but he
has never yet made a woman who
could stand—I will not say adverse
criticism, but—one note of deviation
from absolute and unqualified praise
of any of her literary efforts. This
ip I is not in blame of anyone—-unless of
jj&] j the Creator—it is a law as certain as
ill j the law of gravitation* and there is
H I and has never been any deception to
|| j it from Deborah to George Eliot,
|| and even later (the assumption of a
H masculine name cannot alter the
|g ; fact), there is a unanimity of proof.”

DISPENSE WITH MOURNING.
“A southern physician of recog-
nized skill and eminence urges that
all outward symbols of mourning
'should be abandoned,” says Mun-
se/s. “For many years he has ex-"
pressed his views. He has won over
a large number of people who see
no reason why the heart should ad-
vertise its sorrow by the conspicuous
insignia of gloom.
‘“There are, or have been, peoples
wiser in their generation. The Ro-
mans of the days of the republic
wore blue as a sign of mourning. It
ia the proper thing in Asia Minor
now. The Turk mourns in violet
and the Persian in pale brown. Un-
til a French queen set the present
fashion in the latter half of the fif-
teenth century white was the color
of grief in Europe, as it is now in
China.

Horse breeding in Belgium, espe-
cially in heavy draft horses, in-
creased considerably. The business
continues profitable, the best stock
commanding high prices. There were
34,599 horses exported from Bel-
gium in 1910, an increase of 6,24a
head over the previous year. The ex-
portation of Belgian horses for
breeding purposes to the United
States increased in value from $158,-
279 in 1909 to $207,343 in 1910.
NEW STEAL.
“Fine climate you have here, so
bracing,” remarked the casual vis-
itor.
“Yes, pretty good,” allowed the
village pessimist, “but them con-
founded automobiles come along and
pump the air into their pneumatic
tires.”—Lippincott’s.

“In what way?”
“By ending some soft drinks.”
