ENDORSED BY
THE ATTORNEYS
Resolutions Favor Judge
C hambliss and Judge
Davidson.
At a meeting of the Bar of
San Patricio County and visiting
attorneys, held at Sinton, Mon-
day, March 16, M. A. Childers
was elected, temporary chairman
and John D. Wheeler, temporary
secretary. On motion Jas. G.
Cook, J. R. Dougherty, John A.
Jones, M. C. Nelson and Judge
W. H. Walling were appointed a
committee to draft resolutions
relative to the candidacy of
•Judge F. G. Chambliss for re-
election as judge of the 36th
Judicial District of Texas.
After deliberation the commit-
tee submitted the following pre-
amble, which was unanimously
adopted:
Whereas, the Hon. P. G. Cham-
bliss is a candidate for re-elec-
tion as Judge of the 36th Judi-
cial District of Texas, and .
Whereas, he has presided as
Judge of this District for nearly
two years with great credit to
himself and honor to the district,
now, therefore,
•BE IT RESOLVED, By the
Bar of San Patricio County, that
we heartily endorse the candida-
cy of Judge Chambliss for re-
election, and pledge him our
most hearty support, and,
The secretary of this meeting
be instructed to furnish a copy
of these resolutions to Judge
Chambliss, and also a copy of the
same to the press of the 36th
Judicial District.
On motion J. C. Houts, Conn
Brown, J. R. Dougherty, W. E.
Masterson and J. D. Wheel-
er were appointed a committee to
draft resolutions endorsing the
candidacy of Judge W. L. David-
son for re-election as Judge of
the Court of Criminal Appeals,
and the following resolution was
submitted and unanimously
adopted:
Whereas, Judge W. L. David-
son is a candidate for re-election
as Judge of the Court of Crimi-
nal Appeals; and
Whereas, for many years he
has adorned the bench, and his
services have been of pre-emi-
nent value to the whole people
of the State, and
Whereas, we recognize in Judge
Davidson a man who has that
rare degree of courage necessary
in a great jurist that makes him
deaf to public clamor and blind
to popular strife and so well vers
ed in the basic principals of the
law that his decisions have be-
come a well spring of fundament-
al law throughout the land, and
Whereas, the presence of such
a man is so essentially vital to
our jurisprudence and to the
welfare of our entire citizenship,
in order that the law may be cer-
tain and known and . respected,
that the failure to return him
would be a public calamity.
Therefore, be it
RESOLVED, by the entire Bar
of San Patricio County, that we
cheerfully endorse him and
'pledge our hearty support, and,
1 be it
- FURTHER RESOLVED, That
‘k copy of these resolutions be
■’spread on the minutes of the
‘District Court of San Patricio
County, how in session, and that
h copy thereof be furnished the
p¥ess of the State arid a copy
forwarded 'to Judge Davidson.
JACK FIELDS GOES j
TO ST. JOSEPH, MO.
Enjoyed a Most Delightful
Winter and Will Return
For The Summer.
“Jack” Fields, of Paris, Mo.,
who has been spending the win-
ter in Aransas Pass, left this
week for St. Joseph, Mo.,--where
he will look after his personal
affairs until about July when he
expects to return and enjoy the
delightful breezes from the Gulf.
Mr. Fields is one of the many
who have studied Aransas Pass
and the deep waterway from ev-
ery angle, and the more he stud-
ied and the longer he stayed the
more enthusiastic he became re-
garding the future of both.
“You can say anything good
about Aransas Pass and credit it
to me, and you cannot make it
too strong,” said Mr. Fields to
The Progress before leaving.
“During my stay here I have
enjoyed the most delightful cli-
mate and the most hospitable
people it has ever been my good
fortune to encounter. Every day
has been a pleasure and I sin-
cerely regret that my personal
affairs call me away at this time
as I know the next three months
should be more than delightful,
if the past three months are any
criterion.
“I cannot see anything in con-
ditions that will prevent Aransas
Pass from becoming the most im-
portant deep water city on the
Texas Gulf coast and I expect to
see the port of Port Aransas be-
come one of the great ports of
the world. I have no object in
saying this except as it appeals
to me as a fact, and the potent
fact is that nature and the gov-
ernment are working in perfect
harmony to bring about this re-
sult, and I am not afraid to fol-
low either or both.
“With a deep water harbor in
front of it and the most fertile
soil of Texas behind it, Aransas
Pass need have no friar of the
future. ’ ’

Mayor Todd and Commissioners
Gustafson and Henry this week
closed negotiations for the pur-
chase of eight lots, 25 to 32, in-
clusive, in block 327, on Saun-
ders street, as a location for the
water works, and they will pro-
ceed at once to have them clear-
ed and put in condition for use.
These lots are located a block
and one half north of Lone
Star park, and it is the intention
to beautify the grounds with the
idea of creating a small park
that will be supplementary to
the Lone Star. The mayor and
jjjK>mmissioners have carefully
safeguarded the tax payers’ in-
terests by mapping the route for
mains in a way that will serve
the business and resident inter-
ests to the best advantage and
with a view of making the funds
go as far as possible. It is the
intention now to extend an 8
Inch main from the recently ac-
quired property south to Lone
Star Park, thence down Wheeler
avenue to the alley between
Houston and Commercial streets,
thence south to Greenwood ave-
nue. From Greenwood avenue
a 6 inch main will be extended
down the alleys between Houston
and Rife streets to De Berry
avenue north through the alleys
between Houston and Rife streets
and Rife and McCampbell to
Wheeler avenue.
The lead 8 inch - main will be
continued east on Wheeler ave-
nue down to Railroad street and
down Railroad street to Stod-
dard -avenue, and this will sup-
ply sufficient water and ample
fire protection for what will be
the warehouse and jobbing dis-
trict.
