Behind Bars:
Field Trip Provides Insight on Prison Life
When classes offered at Hardin-Simmons University give stu-
dents the opportunity to participate in field trips they are given a
taste how the real world effects their respective field.
Although I am a communications major as a student in Dr. Alan
Stafford's Crime and Delinquency class we had the opportunity to
visit the Gatesville and the Huntville prison systems.
Before the trip it was only through lecture video and local news
that we were exposed to crime in our society. The trip indeed offered
new insight into the harsh reality of prison life and the consequences
of criminal behavior.
Dr. Stafford feels that Criminal Justice majors and other inter-
ested students are unaware of the field trip offered through his Crime
and Delinquency class. Stafford would like to extend an invitation to
all Criminal Justice majors minors and other students interested in
enrolling to plan for the Spring 95 class.
Opportunities like this should be taken advantage of because it
truely helps students apply and understand what they have learned in
the classroom.
