Fort Worth, Tex., Aug. 0.—An
amendment to the constitution of
the Farmer*’ Union which is
room mended and whioh will be
submitted to the looals designs
ohangoo whioh will make it el-
moat impossible for any but the
real farmer to get into tho or-
ganization in the future.
To indioato the preforenoo of
the o invention a vote was taken
on the invitation of Houston and
Collego Station for the next an-
nual meeting of the union and
College Station won by a large
majority. The oali is made by
the executive oommittee and the
vote) thi« evening indioatod the
preferenoe of the members.
The retiring speeoh of Presi-
dent Calvin brought tears to
many eyes. The resolutions of
confidence, most oompiimentary
in their nature, are to be printed
and with his pioture in the midst,
framed and hung in the hall of
the union.
W. V. Orubbs of Groenville,
identified with industrial educa-
tional reform in Texas, has with-
drawn from I'ffi iutiyn with
the Farmers’ Union and in an
explanatory oard denounoes the
aoticn of the union in adopting a
recommendation that the Legis-
lature be urged to pass a law
whioh will prevent publio of-
ficials from aooepting employ-
ment with corporations and trusts.
He oonstrues thut, in his oard, to
be intended as a reflection on
Senator Balmy, in that the reso-
lution on whioh the recommen-
dation is based was offered by
politioal enemies of Mr. Bailey.
The ounvention refused this
afternoon to reopen the question.
The nluht session was devoted
to considerations of submitted
amendments to tho constitution
and resolutions of a general char-
acter.
The reaoluti n advooating the
warehouse plan to the members
generally was at last so framed
as to suit and was adopted. It
urges oo-operation in the fullest
sense.
