SOME EDITORIAL COMENT

When there was a little talk
of war with Mexico, even Don
Pablo came out of his retirement
long enough to offer his services
to Calles to help repel the enemy.
Don Pablo was driven out of
Mexico and no doubt Don Dalles
would meet his return to that
country with open arms.
Poor old Dexter Chipps! lie
went through lifo without kill-
ing his man, or even inflicting
injury on nnyone, and yet in
the trial of the man who shot
him down and took his life th'*y
l^avc proven by witnesses that
he was a very bad and dan-
generous man although when kil-
led Chipps was on n peace nrs-
sion and was unarmed. And all
of which recalls a little story:
Bome years ago, two men whom
we will call Bill and Tom be-
cause those were not their name:;
were rival candidates for a dis
trict office. Among Tom’s sup
porters in a certain county of the
district, was quite a large group
of voters similar in many res-
pects to the crowd that is sup
porting the Bev. J. Frank Norris,
the killer of Chipps. As the cam-
paing got warm, a little paper in
the county above-referred to, in
its effort to elect Tom, published
an article in which Bill was charg ftnd this onc^made^ up
ed with stealing a horse, burning
a baby or some such ‘innocent”
pastime. A friend of Bill saw tho
article, and, very much excited,
took it to Bill and asked if the
charge was true. “It is not”
“I am not,” replied Bill. “Why

the way with the Rev. J. Frank.

Exploitation of Rubber in This
Country Will Be Abandoned,”
and was as follows, a correct
traslation having been made of
the article:
“The representative of Mr.
Henry Ford—Mr. Harvey Fires-
tone—who is at the present time
In this (Capital, declared today
that the exploitation of rubber
in the haciendas in the State of
Chiapas will be definitely aban
doned, because of the enormous
taxes and the constant obstacles
which are put in the way of the
concern’s operations by the (Jo-
vernment of that State—taxes
ind difficulties imposed which
render impossible the conti-
nuance of operations in the rub-
ber-bearing properties.
“Firestone says that from let
ters received, Mr. Ford is resolv
•d to seek rubber in other Amor
ican countries where so many im-
pediments are not put in the way
as the Government of Chiapas is
doing.
“If it comes about that the
exploitation of the Chiapas rub
bor-bcaring lands is suspended,
there will be left without em-
ployment thousands of men whose
only means of existence comes
from regular employment on the
haciendas referred to.”
SCHOOL SUPERVISOR HERE
Mrs. Cornelia H. Hutton, High
School Supervisor for the State
Departmente of Education at
Austin, arrived in Hebbronville
Friday and spent the day here
supervising our High School. She
was shown every courtesy by
Professor McGee and expressed
herself as being most agreeably
surprised at the school and its
management. In her report to
the Department, she recom-

non in use being over croweded.
She nlso recommended additional
books for history courses nnd
larger histories nnd reference
books for the grades. She was
high in her praise of Professor
McGee and Mrs. McGee and the
teachers all of whom had fine
qualifications, having hnd two
yenrs each of college life nnd
teaching, with one exception,

IS MR. FORD SINCERE?
The Boston Herald of rceent
date quotes Henry Ford as say-
ing that tlm man who talks about
war with Mexico is “some finan-
cier who wants something in Mex-
ico. But they will never get it
for the President is too wise to
let them pull the wool over his
eyes.” Mr. Ford then continues:
“I know very well, and I’m
not egoistical hut the Ford Mo-
tor Company could go into Mex-
ico and develop the resurces of
that country without causing any
hard feelings among Mexicans.
The thing to do is to givo them
industry.”
Just before Mr. Ford gave his
interview to the Boston Herald,
his representative in Mexico, Mr.
Harvey Firestone, talked in a
