El+S’.rlc Vibration to
Take Mace ef Food
Scientist* have pomlemf over
the elcetricitjr of the body for many
years and have endeavored to dis-
cover the connection and relation
between life and electricity. It is
known thnt there is a clo-c connec-
tion between light waves, hast
yravesi and electric wares, and that
thcfic waves have a direct influence
upon the body. They have frit
that if they wore able to dis-
tinguish between them, and to dis-
cover the cause and effect, they
would have fallen a long step to-
ward the solution of tho problem
of life itself.
At a convention of the Middle
States Society of Electronic Medi-
cine, recently, Dr. Francis A. t’nve
of Doetcn predicted that electrical
vibrations will compose the menu
card of the future, and that there
would come a time wheu humans
would attach to their bodies ap-
paratus connected with electric
wires, and absorb electrical vibra-
tions instead of food.
With a great number of people
eating is a genuine pleasure, not
merely because of tho nourishment
that is received, but because of the
taota of the food. Science may
eventually reach the peint where
man may be made to function as
a piece of mechanism; but when
th(A day arrives, if it over dees,
half tho fun of living will he gone.

Mexican Jamping Beans
and Why They Jump
Jumping leans are among Da-
tura’s must interesting phenomena-
Hcully, it is unt the beau that
jumps, but a little insect inside it l
The jumping bean comes from a
tree in Mexico, which beara a
strange-looking three-eoruened fruit,
eontaining three pods. In two of
these pods are the seeds of the tree,
but in tho third is a little worm,
the larva of a certain kind of moth,
says London Tit-Bits.
This moth comes to the treer
when it is in flower and lays an egg
in a port of each bloB6om, so thut
while two parts grow Into pijds for
i the sew! of tho tree, the other be-
comes a shell for tho egg wheu it i#
hatched.
The fruit ripens in August and!
drops to the ground. There the
husk breaks open and divides into
threo parts. In oue sf these is the
worm.!
In sonic extraordinary way the
littlo insect knows that it is not in
a safe place. It might get eaten or
trampled upon, so it coils itself up
and then suddenly lets itself go
with a spring, taking it* houw
with it. It goes on jumping until
it has found a safe resting place;
then it goes to sleep for tits winter.
First Calculation of
Velocity of Light
The first determination of the
velocity of light was made by
lvcmer in 167(5. The method was
based upon the observation of tho
eclipses of Jupiter's satellites,
phenomena of frequent reeurrenco
and easy of observation.
Assuming that light requires t>*.i®
whorcin to move from place to
place through space, says the De-
troit News, tho interval between
successive eclipses would appear too
short when the earth i# approneh-
ing Jnpitcr and too long when the
earth is receding therefrom.
ltoni»r found in his observations
that such was the case, and that
the interval was conditioned by the
rate of speed at which the earth
changed places relatively with
Jupiter. Prom the«e constant*
Romer coqiputcd that light ex-
pended about 161/2 minutes in
CTo.«aing the earth's orbit, ftrom
tlr* is deduced a velocity of 1S6,-
OOO miles a second.
