SOME EDITORIAL COMMENT
Mr McAdoo nays he is not think
in# of the Presidency, which
muses the Toledo blade to ask if
he i# thinking about the nomina-
tion 1
Speaker Bobbitt was master of
ceremonies at Larero’s celebra-
tion and In* did his duty fully
and without making a single
bobble.
They have an editorial par-
grapher on the El Paso Times
who is doing wonderful work in
the way of advertising the Pass
City to the outside world.
When the Texas Legislators
landed in Nuevo Lnredo, they
found a hunch of friendly and
dexterous pickpockets awaiting
them with open arms and nimble
fingers. Even Lee Satterwhite
was made a victim.
Those visitors who had their
pockets picked in Nuevo Laredo,
and there were many of them
according to all reports, will long
remember Washington’s Birthday
in Laredo and the part they play-
ed in celebrating it.
when thoy arrived in Nuevo La-
redo they were detained there by
Mexican officials and relieved of
their money, amounting to some
2.800 pesos in gold and a check
for 3.3Q0 pesos. They were not
trying to bring the gold out
of the country, but had gone to
the proper office to get U. 8.
exchange when they Were offi-
cially deprived of their money
and later informed that it had
bee confiscated.
C. 8. McKinney prominent La-
redo broker and commission man
bad $13,000 in gold sent him by
customers in Mexico City. He
wanted to take this m- net 'on
the express office *< b i
Nuevo Laredo, a branch o e
Bank of Mexico, but the moment
the gold was taken from the ex-
press office it was seized by Mex-
ican officers on the ground that
the Lnredo broker was violating
law and in consequence of which
his gold would be confiscated.
The matter,is now in the Nuevo
Laredo courts, but you know
what Mexican courts are, and if,
the gentleman’s money is restor-
ed then a miracle will have been
performed.
For the past three of four
weeks peop'e coming out of Mex-
ico on a visit to the States
not a few them merchants coming
to buy goods have been deprived
of their money bv Mexican of-
ficials in Nuevo Laredo and in-
formed that their money had
been confiscated. The amount
thus secured is thousands with
in the past 30 davs. The victims
appeal to Mexico City but, it does
them no good.

TOWN HAS A FUTURE.
The time will yet come when
Laredo will invite outsiders to
pay her a visit without holding
up to them Nuevo Lnredo as the
only inducement. Laredo has at-
tractions of her own and s >mc
day she will acquaint outsider*
with tljat fact.
Governor Dan Moody made a
fine impression on the Laredo
people during the Washington
Birthday celebration. It was his
first visit to the Border City
and his democratic way pleased
the people ininensely. And many
expressed the opinion that “Dan
ought to he in the United States
Senate.”
W. D. Alexander, district ma-
nager of the Central Power &
Light Company with headquart-
ers at Laredo, motored out Sat-
urday to spend the day with
Victor Gunnoe, manager of the
Hebbronville plant, and to look
the situation over. Mr. Alexand-
er found Mr. Gunnoe a very busy
man, and was greatly pleased
with the progress the local plant
is making under the guidance of
Mr. Gnnnoc. Mr. Alexander sees
a great future for Hebbronville
and says the Central Power &
Light Company will do its part
in the upbuilding of the town.
When asked if his company
would establish a waterworks
in Hebbronville, in ease the peo-
ple requested it he said that
would be left for the higher ups
of the company to decide. Mr.
Alexander returned to Hebbron-
ville Saturday evening, well
pleased with his visit to the
Prairie City.

The first thing that attracted
visitors who crossed the Interna-
tional bridge during the Washing
ton Birthday celebration espe-
cially night visitors, was a great
electric sign at the Mexican end
of the bridge, which bore this
legend: “Maxwell House Coffee
—Good to the Last Drop.” The
sign, wich was 35 feet wide and
10 feet high, was the work of
Harry Maggart. San Antonio re
presentative of the Maxwell
House Coffee people and who
frequently visits here. It was
rarely some advertisement.
When Pani resigned from the
Calles Cabinet the Mexican peo-
ple said it was a sure a sign
that Pani was a wise old rat who
was leaving a sinking ship, as he
has done on former occasions.
And the Mexicans quote as furth-
er evidence that the Calles- Mo-
rones ship is sinking, that the
Russian Erahassadress is making
arrangements to get ont of the
country while the getting is good.
Well, she has done enough harm
to Mexico, and her departure ns
would tliat of Calles and Moro-
aies, would he hailed with great
joy by the Mexican masses.

Mr. 0‘Hern says it’s as pretty a
