Out of .three games played this
season, Sonora baa won two of
them and both by shut outs.
.The game waa called here at 3
o'clock Saturday, and it seemed
to ba Sonora’s game from the
flrkt. In the second inning, Bud
Smith, our pitcher, slammed one
over tha (aft field fence for four
baaes. And then later in the
game getting two more home runs
all of them wore clean homers
Ha went to tbe bat four tiiuak
and got three hits,and all of them
for four bases. Fields and liud
ler for Sonora also got hits.
Fields fielding several chance* at

game, Menard’s star on defen-
sive waa Randolph nt short stop
Ha handled many chances per
fectly and threw tbe ball well.
Tha game was fast end was all
tight on both sides almost thru-

fielders did not get n chance, but

which were fielded, Menard's
outfieldsra got several chances

Ur. Blanton** Mother lieud.
News that will bring sorrow, to
tha friends of tha Blanton and
Isbell families in Walker county,
a that of the death of Mrs. Mary
Ann Blaoton, wife cf Elijah
Blanton, which occurred at their
home at Haleyville, in Winston
county, Thursday, March. 86.
Mrs. Blanton waa io her 79th
year at tba time of her death.
She was a daughter of Godfrey
Isbell, who removed to Walker
county from Fayotte county when
Mrs. Blanton waa a small girt-.
The Isbell old home oo the moan
taia above Wolf creek near where
Corona now is waa well known in
its day, and will ba remembered
by many of tba oldei people In
that section. Mra. liluntou was
familiary known tp her girlhood
friends as “Polly” Isbell.
She married. El j ib Blanton in
1865, following the close of the
Civil war, in which be served on
tba side of the Confederacy, a
part of tha timo aa a courier (or
General Nathan Bedford Forrest.,
for several year* of their early
married life they lived near "Old
Antioch’* church. Later Mr.
Blantoo'purchased a farm on Lust
creek, the home being located on
the old Jasper and Tuscaloosa
road, six* miles south of Jasper.
Thera they lived a number of
years and until about the year
1884, when this farm was sold to
Mr. Blanton's fsther, Uncle Isaac
Blanton nod they moved to God-
frey, in Winaoji county to give
the ohildren bent fits of attend-
ance at Godfrey High school, a
school uf considerable note thru
out North Alabama ia its day,
•ad which waa fuuoded by Key.
Robert G. Isbell, Mrs. Biaalun’s
brother. Later they moved to
J&cnible Spriogs, sad in 1906 to
Haleyville, where they bad ainca
ritfided. -

Judge B. L. Blanton and Mra. C.

number of grandchildren.
Mr«. Blanton was • faithful,
noasroratad Christian woman. A
member of tba Southern Metho-
dist church -from her childhood,
she lived up to her obligation to
^'attend upon it* ordinances, and
•upport its iostitulioaa." She
was a woman of strong eonvic
tiooa, unswerving purpose, and
nafslteriag faith. Ameiica needs
