A Thanksgiving Day wedding
was solemnized Thursday at 10
a.m. Jn the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Glee Taylor of Lake Creek, when
their daughter, Miss Wilma Ruth
Taylor, exchanged vows with Le-
land Russell of Paris and Lake
Creek. The Rev. Russell Reagan
Methodist minister of Dallas and
uncle of the groom, officiated. Mr.
Russell is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Russell of Lake Creek.
Miss Taylor, who teaches school
at Roxton, was honoree at a mis-
cellaneous gift shower Saturday
afternoon in the home of Mrs. L.
T. Hendrix of Lake Creek.
The honoree’s cnosen colors of
pink and green were used in home
decorations featuring chrysanthe-
mums and ivy bouquets. Cover-
ed with lace over green, the din -
ing table was centered with t
crystal punch bowl surrounded by
ivy and minature pink and green
umbrellas. Lime punch and cake
iced in pink were served by Miss
Bcna White, Miss Zonell Russcli
and Mrs. Bobby Skidmore.
Preceding presentation of gifts,
Mrs. Skidmore, accompanied by
Mrs. Allenc Hendrix, gave a read-
ing “Why Do I Love You”, and
Mrs. Ethel Young sang “There
Shall be Showers of Gifts."
Mrs. Allenc Hendrix received
56 registrations in the bride's book.
Guests from Paris, Sulphur
Springs, Dallas, Linden and En-
loe attended the party, including:
Mrs. Laverne Russell, Dallas; Mrs.
Ada Donaldson, Mrs. Jack Lem-
mond and daughter, Dawn, Mrs.

Program for Junior
Afflatus Club
A program on music and art
was featured by the Junior Affla-
tus Club Tuesday evening at the
First Baptist Church, when Mrs.
Hollis Williams, program leader,
presented Miss Cathryn Neal, pro-
fessor of art at ETSTC, Com-
merce, and Mrs. Luther Brown,
Cooper music instructor, and her
pupil, Miss Marie Melton.
"What is Art and Who Are
Arti:*s" was the theme of Miss
Neal's talk. Mrs. Brown played
four organ numbers and Miss Mel-
ton played two piano numbers.
As an organ and piano duet, the
two musicians played “Variations
on a Theme” (Tschaikowshy).
Mrs. Charles F. McKinney and
Mrs. A. C. Smith, hostesses, serv-
ed a refreshment course to 12
members and 19 guests.
Wesleyan Service
Guild Organized
A Wesleyan Service Guild for
Cooper was organized Thursday
evening, Nov. 16, when a group
of young women held a meeting
at the Methodist Church.
The following officers were
elected: Miss Estelle McIntosh,
president; Mrs. Thel Garrison,
vice-president; Mrs. J. R. Wat-
kins, co-ordinator; Miss Laura Jo
Taylor, secretary; Miss Lola Nell
Morgan, treasurer; Mrs. J. C.
Fisher, corresponding secretary,
and Miss Gladys Wright, publicity
chairman.
Organization was effected after
supper served by the Woman’s
Missionary Society. The Rev.
Adams, pastor, gave invocation.
Musical numbers were presented
by Farrell Welch and his mother,
Mrs. Carl Tanner. A candlelight
service was said by Mrs. Alton
Wright.
The guild will meet the first
Thursday night of each month at
7 p.m., and by special invitation
the December meeting will be
held in the home of the Rev. and
Mrs. Fred Adams.
Change Club Name
To Garden Club
The Klondike Home Demon-
stration club will henceforth be
known as the Klondike Garden
club following a meeting on Wed-
nesday, Nov. 15, in the home of
Mrs. Dudley Robnett. Fourteen
members and one visitor, Miss
Betty Robnett, were present.
Officers chosen for the new
club are: Mrs. Robnett, president:
Mrs. D. A. Bigony, vice president;
Mrs. Floyd Gough, secretary; and
Mrs. Wesley Wallace, reporter.
Committee on arrangements for
a Christmas luncheon and tree to
be held at the home of Mrs. Louis
Robertson on December 14, made

Party for Ccoper-
Commerce Group
Delta Country Club was the
setting Friday night for a turkey
dinner and party in which officials
and employees of the Gulf States
Telephone of Cooper and Commer-
ce participated.
Following dinner Morris S. Bur-
ton of Tyler, assistant general
manager of the company, exhibit-
ed a motion picture entitled “A
Trip to Tclezonia”. Guests chose
dancing, canasta and other games
for entertainment during the even-
ing.
Commerce employees headed by
District Manager Roi Cornish
were hosts for the party, with
Cooper Manager A. C. Smith and
his employees assisting with pre-
parations and details.
Thirty-three employes and their
guests attended the party from
Commerce, and 10 employees and
six guests attended from Cooper,
including: Mr. and Mrs. A. C.
Smith and son, A. C. Jr.; Mr. and
Mrs. Melvin Bullington; Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Hocutt; Mr. and Mrs.

The Baptist Rehoboth associa-
tion is planning U> send its annual
Thanksgiving gift to the Buckner
Orphans Home at Dallas. Among

tist church of Cooper are being

class of First Baptist Sunday
school Tuesday evening.
Featuring a harvest theme the
reception rooms were decorated
with autumn grasses, leaves, corn
and root vegetables.
In a business session the class
made plans to assist a needy fam-
ily as a Thanksgiving offering.

throughout the evening and a re-
freshment course was served to

ma Strong, Brenda Cain and the
class teacher, Mrs. Arthur Stah-

J. A. Brannon, who resides with
his son and daughter-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. Dewey Brannon, north
of Cooper, was entertaining his
children and grandchildren on
Thanksgiving Day when a turkey
dinner was to be served.
Included in the family party are
County Judge and Mrs. O. L.
Bridges of Cooper, Mr. and Mrs.
Homer Lee Brannon of Ft. Worth,
Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Bridges and
daughter, Cheryl, of Dallas, and
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Whitlock of
Cooper.
Attendance at the three services
held last Sunday at Cooper Metho-
dist church aggregated 726 per-
sons, according to the Rev. Fred
Adams. The increase was due
not only to a church loyalty pro-
gram which is in progress, but to
attendance of the high school Fut-
ure Homemakers class and their
families, the Rev. Fred Adams
said.
