an all-around cowboy. Todd,
fifteen and a CHS sophomore,
brought his Red Brahman heifer
show animal along. Todd’s on
the AG Show team. He seldom
misses a rodeo.
Faye’s an only child. Her
parents, Homer and Lilia Bell
Houser still live in Lockesburg.
Ken lost his father twelve years
ago. His mother, Ivy Dixon,
lives in Dallas. His brother
Douglass and wife Claudine live
in Mesquite. Second brother I..
D. and Wynema Dixon live in
Seagoville. L.D. is a horse per-
son. Third in the family, Utah,
and wife Delores, live in Lockes-
burg, Arkansas. Ken is next.
Youngest in the family, Margie
Dixon Jordan, and husband Al-
len live in Sulphur Springs.
Margie owns Margie’s Place on
the northwest comer of the
Cooper Square.
The Dixons’ four horses (part
of the family) moved with them.
The horses: Buck, Cowboy,
Nameless and her little one,
Nameless Filly. The family
hunted until they found a place
to live that would accomodate
four horses, a Red Brahman
heifer, and one dog - Wendv-
Poo. Wendy, part Pekingese,
part Poodle, and part mystery,
runs the show.
The Dixons, who are Baptists,
are looking forward to the good
life in Cooper. Faye and Ken
will mind the store; Todd will
pitch in after school. Ken is full
of ideas and has already made
changes. He’s got Hester Smith
and Lillian Henderson, and per-
suades Maggie Bowers to come
and help out.
Ken says of his new business,
"It’s big enough to make a
living and small enough to know
your customers. I delivered gro-
ceries to Mrs. Torotha Coston
one day and she sent a pot plant
for Faye back with me. That s
small-town living and we plan to
love it."

Wicks Update: On Sunday,
Cheryl and Kaleb Wright (Ran-

Gerald, Pat, and Doug. Doug, a
senior this year, escorted Kim
Beeler at the Homecoming
Game. Kim was crowned Home-
coming Queen. Learned the
nominees for Queen choose
their escorts (from their own
class).

Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Williams
returned Sunday from a
vacation to Hawaii. While there,
they visited Honolulu; Oahu,
Diamond Head Mountain, Pearl
Harbor Memorial Center, the
U.S.S. Arizona, pineapple and
sugar cane fields and the Poly-
nesian Museum. On the island
of Hawaii, they visited the
Kilauea Volcano, International
Parks, Kona Beach and the
Parker Ranch, second largest in
the United States.

Mrs. Baker Hosts Cancer Society Elects New Officers
First PWC Meeting
Members of the Delta County
Professional Women's Club
held their first meeting of the
new club year in the home of
Mrs. Betty Baker last Thursday
night. A covered dish salad
supper was served to 11
members.
Mrs. Baker, president, pre-
sided over the business meet-
ing. Plans were made for the
coming club year and Mrs.
Baker appointed committees
and hostesses.
The membership also discus-
sed the Delta County Public
Library and members were
asked to participate in the pro-
jects being completed prior to
the opening of the facility.
The meeting adjourned to
meet again October 27. Those
present were Eileen Wright,
Laura Jo Taylor, Pat Waters,
Delma Wintermute, Betty Hen-
sley, Hazel Schmitter, O’Conna
Mora, Suzanne Gantt, Esther
Stonaker, Lynne Gregory and
Mrs. Baker.
Jim Weaver was elected
president of the Delta County
Unit of the American Cancer
Society at a regular meeting in
the Chamber of Commerce
building last Wednesday. Joe
Choate was also elected as a
new board member.
Outgoing president Fred Wil-
kerson presided over the meet-
ing during which District Direc-
tor, Pat Murphy of Paris pre-
sented the unit a Certificate of
Authorization for Society
membership for having met
national standards.
Treasurer J. Curtis Pardue
reported an end-of-year balance
of $2,010 from the Crusade and
$549 in memorials.
Murphy, new field represen-
tative Ed Sindelar and eight
members were present at the
meeting.

MISS JOAN KAREL OYLER
... to wed Richard Alan Mooney
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Oyler of Paris announce the engagement
and approaching marriage of their daughter, Joan Karel of
Houston, to Richard Alan Mooney of Spring, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Kirbv Mooney of Paris.
The couple will be married in a formal ceremony at 7 p.m.
Saturday, November 5, at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church in The
Woodlands, Texas. Dr. Everett Crimmings will officiate.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy F.
Brooks of Dallas and Mrs. Henry of Cooper and the late Mr.
Oyler. A 1972 graduate of Paris High School, she graduated in
1974 from Paris Junior College and in 1976 from Baylor
University. She received a master’s degree in education from
East Texas State University in 1977 and a degree in nursing in
1982 from Texas Woman’s University. She is a registered nurse
employed by the Texas Kidney Institute at Hermann Hospital in
Houston.
Her fiance, also a 1972 Paris High School graduate, received a
bachelor's degree in journalism in 1976 from the University of
Southern California where he was graduated magna cum laude
and was a member of Sigma Delta Chi and Alpha Epsilon Rho.
He is an account executive with Western Airlines in Houston.
