A. L. Blew and family of Hunt
county visited J. E. Scoggins and
family Saturday night and Sunday.
Jess Smiley and family spent Sat-
urday night and Sunday at Card Jay-
son’s.
There was a party at Tom Smith’s
Saturday night and a gioi bunch
were out. All report a pplend’J
time.
We have about 16 parties a week
in this community with Sunday night
not left out.
W. P. Bostwick and family spent
Saturday night and Sunday with Tom
Smith and family.
Most everybody is done planting
their corn over for the first time.
Don’t know about the second time.
Some have pretty good stands of cot-
ton up but are -not done planting.
Oats look good and there is quite a
lot of them in this country.
Jess Smiley hauled us around in
his car some Sunday and from the
be$t we can see the roads arc in bw
shape and need something done on
them. .
Rev. Sanford preached at the
school house Sunday to a good crowd.
We noticed Homer Shipman of the
North Texas Telephone Co. out the
•other day looking after his lines.
Hard Allard went to Klondike the
other day.
Our school closed last Friday.
We had a little rain and some ha;l
the other day and if the hail had of
lasted any length of time we wuulu
have had to plant our cotton over. It
looked very much like we would hav»
a big rain Sunday, in fact, it did
rain some.
We do believe W. H. McFaddea is
the stingiest man we ever saw. Mack
has a splendid riding planter but he
rides and opens up the furrow and
has his wife to plant the seed, then
he lets his hind feet down, we mean
' the planter feet, and covers the seed.
He says he does that to keep from
wearing out his planter.
Mrs. Henry Alley was visiting
Mrs. J. I. Fain the other day.
Misses Maggie and Cleo Fain spent
Thursday evening with Mrs. Whit-
worth.
J. E. Scoggins says he would mak?
the race for constable at Pecan Gap
hut if he had the office it would keep
him out of town too blamed much.
Miss Maggie Fain was telling us
they had dinner all day and preach-
ing on the ground at Yowell. Golly,
don’t we wish we had of been there
and got one good square meal, then
we could have held up for a week and
they would not of run us over any
bluff at dinner.
Most everyone here is scared up
pretty Lad over the war. Lst it
come, we can’t help it. Don’t get
scared. Do as we are going to do—
leave the U. S. and go to Arkansas
or Titus county. It’s funny that the
more'you do for anyone and help
them through all kinds of sickness
the more they talk about you and
give you dirt. The same way wi n a
poor dog, when you feed him up he
will bit you every time—that is all
for the want of good sense.
We had a little rain and hail Sun-
day night but no damage done.
UNCLE NED.

Well, after the big rain which fell
Sunday night we will send in a few
words. The farmers are about up •
with their cotton planting if they
.don’t have to plant over. Corn is
looking fine.

list last week. Also the little son of
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Tennyson was
sick.
A crowd of young folks enjoyed the
egg hunt in Dr. I.ain’s pasture Sun-
day afternoon.
A wedding took place in our com-
munity last Friday afternoon, the
groom being Henry Wesley and the
bride, Miss Ora Vickers. We wish
them much joy and happinesr.
We were sorry to hoar of the death
of Mrs. J. S. Williams which took
place in oum community last Wed-
nesday. We can sympathize with
her bereaved husband and children
