News
START COMBINING
Farmers have started com-
bining maize in this community.
Several report very good yields.
VARIETY CLUB
Members of the Old Glory
Variety Club entertained their
husbands with a picnic and ice-
cream supper in the back yard
of the Charlie Letz home last
Friday night. Sixteen people
attended the supper. Mrs. Pau-
line Fuqua of Stamford was a
guest of her sister, Mrs. Katie
Gerloff.
SICK FOLKS HOME
Mrs. Lynn Flowers has re-
turned home from the Stamford
Hospital where she had been
receiving medical treatment.
Ben Klump spent two days in
the Stamford Hospital last week,
but he is back at home and
feeling better.
VISITORS
Mr. and Mrs. David Sidbury
and children, Janell and Ma-
lissa, were dinner guests in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Klump last Sunday. Mr. Sid-
bury has been minister at the
Church of Christ here several
weeks, but after services last
Sunday evening he and his fam-
ily started on their way back
to their home in Canada.
Judy White was a dinner guest
in the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Sonny Pittcock and children in
Rule last Sunday.

Linda Gholson has recently
enrolled for a course in Vo-
cational Nursing at the Stam-
ford Hospital.
VISITING
Visitors in the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Lynn Flowers last
Sunday included Mr. and Mrs.
James Overton and Mrs. W.
H. Hargrove of Stamford; Mr.
and Mrs. J. C. King of San
Angelo; Mr. and Mrs. |w. O.
Macon of Rule; also, Mr. and
Mrs. Herbert Klump, Mrs. J.
C. Gholson and Mrs. Katie Ger-
loff. On Monday Mrs. Marshall
Baldwin was a visitor in the
Lynn Flowers home. f

mont visited friends in Rule,

GROUP ENJOYS CAUF, TRIP
Mrs. j. a. Lisle, Joe Har-
old and Caron Cloud and Jen-
nye Ruth and Jimmy Lyle re-
turned home after a two weeks
trip to California. On their
way there they visited the Le-
roy Lowrys in Albuquerque,
N. M. and Grand Canyon in
Arizona. From there they spent
four days in Los Angeles visit-
ing Disneyland, Wax Museum,
Living Arts, Knotts Berry
Farm, spent half a day swim-
ming at the Huntington Beach
and on the last day in Los An-
geles, they visited Marineland.
From there they went to
Fresno, California where they
visited Mrs. Lisles sister, Mrs.
Dale Beck andher mother, Mrs.
T. M. Pike. They were joined
there by her brothers Floyd
E. Pike and family of San Fran-
cisco and Ralph Pike of Lemon
Cove, California.

Sagerton News
RAIN
We received a good rain here
Wednesday of last week in part
of this area. South of Sagerton
over three inches fell, with
the rain getting lighter fur-
ther north. Crops will benefit
greatly from the rain.
WILL TEACH
IN AUSTIN
Mrs. Keith Whiteaker, the
former Jana Ulmer, has ac-
cepted a teaching position in
the Austin Public Schools,
teaching the second grade. She
and Keith arrived last week
from Triangle, Virginia, where
he is stationed with the U. S.
Marine Corps. Keith will be
discharged soon and will enter
Texas University at Austin.
Jana and her mother, Mrs. F.
A. Ulmer, went down there last
week and found an apartment,
and Jana will move down there
this week. Keith did not get to
stay long, as he had to fly back
to Virginia Thursday.
FORMER RESIDENT
Mrs. John Clark and Mrs.
Ben Hess had a surprise visit
Friday of last week from Dr.
Royal Moore, who lived here at
Sagerton when he was a boy
and moved away in 1911 with
his mother, Mrs. Kitsy Moore,
to California. He is now a sur-
geon at a Children’s Hospital
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He flew down in his own plane
to Abilene, and came on here
by car. He went to school here
until he was 15 with Mrs. Clark.
He also got to talk with another
old friend, Dick Hankins. We
are pleased that he thought
enough of our little community
to come back and visit.
STITCH AND CHATTER
CLUB MEETS
Mrs. Ben Hess hosted the
bi-monthly meeting of the Stitch
and Chatter Club in her home
Wednesday of last week. Those
present were: Mrs. G. A. Leach,
Mrs. John Clark, Mrs. J. H.
Jordan, Mrs. Cliff LeFevre,
Mrs. Oscar Gibson and the
hostess.
TRIBUTE TO
MRS. C. C. BREDTHAUER
Residents of the community
were shocked by the sudden
death of Mrs. C. C. Bred-
thauer Wednesday afternoon,
August 16. She took suddenly
ill at her home east of Sager-
ton and was rushed to Stam-
ford Memorial Hospital, where
she passed away just as she
arrived.
She was a faithful member of
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and
enjoyed doing all she could
for her church. She will be
greatly missed by all her
friends. We offer our sincere
sympathy to her family.
VISITING
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Bailey
and Rob of Amarillo spent Sat-
urday with Mr. and Mrs. Del-
bert LeFevre and family. Other
guests in their home on Satur-
day were Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Bailey and Judy of Brownfield,
Mr. and Mrs. Scotty White and
Todd of Rule, Mrs. Keith
Whiteaker of Triangle, Vir-
ginia, Mrs. F. A. Ulmer, Mr.
and Mrs. Cliff LeFevre and
Mrs. Reece Clark of Sagerton.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clark
enjoyed an outing at Lake Whit-
ney Sunday. They flew down in
their plane.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Swofford
and children, Jay, Susan and
Joann, enjoyed the weekend near
Junction at their deer lease,
just relaxing.
Johnny Manske, who has been
gone all summer with his broth-
er, Jerry, running a combine,
returned home last week. They
had gone all the way into Cana-
da. His brother, Tommy, and
Monty Martin of Rule went af-
ter him together with Mrs.
Jerry Manske and children of
Stamford.
Mrs. John L. Brooks visited
her daughter, Mrs. Maxey
Thompson, and Mr. Thompson
and Melinda at Irving last week.
Diane Stegemoeller, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Stege-
moeller of Dallas, has gone
home, after spending two weeks
here withher grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. F. A. Stegemoeller.
Terry Sellers of Lubbock
spent last week with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Sellers.
Mrs. Herbert Stremmel is a
patient at the Hamlin Hospital
again.

In Sunday afternoon’s game
the Mustangs won over Colo-
rado City with a 11-0 victory.
The next game will be on the
local field Sunday afternoon with
Anson.

A barbecue supper was given
by Mrs. Lucy Fulbright and
Mrs. Allie Mae Anderson Satur-
day night prior to the Singleton
reunion held Sunday.
Visiting were their three
brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Singleton, and Bob Singleton
of Denver City, Mr. and Mrs.
Charlie Singleton and family
of Sundown. Others enjoying
the outing were Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Tooley and family of
Austin, Mr. and Mrs. M. D.

ing from injuries received in

bia, South Carolina.
