Bar-B-Que And Hayride
At Blackwell Ranch
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blackwell
were hosts at their ranch to the
Lakewocd Country Ciub Wom-
en’s Golf Association on Mon-
day, Oct 19.
Arriving at 10 a.m. by chart-
ered bus and private cars, guests
were taken on a hayride over
the ranch. At noon, they were
served a barbeque dinner by
Mr. and Mrs, L. B. Klein.
Various games, plus horseback
riding and fishing occupied the
afternoon in which various
prizes were given. The largest
fish caught was a 6V2 lb. Bass
and the smallest caught was a 6
inch catfish.
Attending the ranch party
from Cooper were Mrs. Roscoe
Blackwell and Mr. and Mrs. O.
L. Bridges.

Junior Afflatus Club
Mrs. Tommy Wilson received
sixteen members of the Junior
Afflatus Club at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wilson Thurs-
day evening, October 15.
Mrs. Dean Harrison, program
leader, presented a talk on the
topic “Texans In The White-
house”, discussing the life, per-
sonality and position of the
First Lady, Mrs. Lyndon B.
Johnson.
A business session conducted
by the president, Mrs. Dean E.
Wintermute, preceded the pro-
gram.
Mr. & Mrs. Preston Reynolds
of Dallas were weekend guests
of Mrs. J. D. Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Brannon,
Mary Linda and Charles of Sul-
phur Springs visited his mother,
Mrs. Roberta Brannon last Sun-

Conference
More than 250 Northeast
Texas teachers of English are
expected to attend a meeting of
District VIII of the Texas Joint
English Committee for School
and College at East Texas State
College on Friday, October 30.
Mrs. Wade T. Bledsoe, Coopei
High School, is district chairman
and will preside over the seven-
teenth annual conference.
Theme of the one-day work-
shop, to be held at the Student
Center, will be “Application of
Structural Linguistics to the
Teaching of Composition and
Literature.”
Main speaker for the Com-
merce meeting will be Dr. Silas
Griggs, associate professor of
English at North Texas State
University. During the morning
session, sectional meetings will
be held at the college, senior
high, junior high, and element-
ary school levels. Speakers for
these meetings will be Dr. Fred
Tarpley, E.T.S.C.; Mrs. Mary
Fred Galvan, Arlington Senior
High School; and Dr. Herman T.
Benthul, instructional assistant
for elementary, Dallas Public
Schools.
Mrs. L. D. Clements left last
Saturday for Nash, near Texar-
kana, where she is spending a
week with relatives.
After spending several weeks
with her son-in-law and daugh-
ter, Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Hooten

Williamson-Pickering Betrothal
Announced At Luncheon
Mrs Millard Watson has ac-
cepted a position at a Com-
merce cafe, and commutes daily
to her work.
Formal announcement of the
engagement of Miss Karen Wil-
liamson to Grover Quentin Pick-
ering was made at a luncheon
Saturday, October 17, at the
home of Mrs. G. D. Albright in
Cooper. Associate hostesses were
Mrs. George A. Bolger, Mrs.
Quentin Miller and Mrs. Fred
Newman.
Miss Williamson is the daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Odis H.
Williamson. She will be gradu-
ated in November from Baylor
University where she is a mem-
ber of the Alpha Omega.
Mr. and Mrs. Grover D. Pick-
ering are the parents of the
prospective bridegroom, a junior
student at Texas A&M Univer-
sity.
The couple will exchange
vows December 19 in formal
ceremonies at the First Baptist
Church in Cooper.
Receiving guests at 12:30
o’clock were Miss Williamson
and Mrs. Albright.
Raspberry satin streamers em-
bossed with “Karen and Grover
Quentin - December 19” in
silver pronounced the wedding
date to guests as they signed the
register. Miniature bride and
groom figurines complimented
the registry.
A mass arrangement of pink
carnations and raspberry hue
roses with greenery in a silver
epergne centered the serving
table, laid in a white l’inen cut-
work cloth.
Tables for four, placed
throughout the dining area,
were covered in white linen
cloths and centered with ar-
rangements of roses and fern in
crystal compotes. Raspberry sat-
in ribbon tied ruffles of pink
net to the base of the compotes.

liamson, Mrs. Grover D. Picker-
ing, Mrs. Grover Pickering, Mrs.

Mrs. Ed Hendricks suffered a
fractured left wrist in a fall at
her home Tuesday of last week
and was taken to a local hos-
pital where she is being treated
for shock. Mrs. Hendricks is the
mother of Mrs. Wade Bledsoe,
Cooper teacher.
Mrs. W. W. Barker and Mrs
J. Olen Watson left last Friday
morning for Colorado City to
visit their oldest sister and her
husband, Mr. and Mrs. E. H.
Taylor. They were joined in
Dallas by their brother and sis-
ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John
Henry Robinson.
Mrs. Rosa Waters and her son,
Bill Keller, spent last Sunday at
Breckenridge visiting her sister,
Mrs. Bill Kyle.
Jeff Janes, sophomore pre-
medieal student at Texas Chris-
tian University, Ft. Worth, spent
the weekend with his parents.
Dr and Mrs. Olen G. Janes and
Juli, and attended the Bulldog-
Tiger football game in Com-
merce Friday night.
Miss Helen Crawford of Tyler
