Mrs. Louie Hackel, the
former Martell Hunt, daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. YV.
Hunt, Sr., is retiring after 39
vears of teaching first grade, 34
of which were spent in the
Marlin Elementary school.
Mrs. Hackel was born and
rasied in Klondike and attended
public school there, graduating
from Klondike High School.
She received her Bachelor of
Science Degree from East Texas
State University in Commerce
and her Master of Science
Degree in Education from
Baylor University in Waco.
Mrs. Hackels teaching career
began at the age of 18 in the
first grade in her hometown.
She has been with the Marlin
public schools since 1935.
She is a member of the First
Baptist Church and the Order of
the Eastern Star. Her profes-
sional organizations included
Delta Kappa Gamma, Texas
State Teachers Association,
Marlin Classroom Teachers and
the Falls County Teachers
Association.
Mrs. Hackel is married to
Louie Hackel, who is a retired
co-owner of Hackel Motor
Company. They are the parents
of one daughter, Pamela Hackel
Ward, who resides in Irving
with her husband, Douglas, and
daughters, Laurie and Angie.
Mrs. Hackel thinks that the
first grade is the most important
grade in school. Her greatest
desire has been to help each
child that she taught to adjust
physically, mentally, and emo-
tionally to become happy
mature citizens of society.

Visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
Bud Bates on July 6 were their
son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. W.
W, McCasland from Shreve-
port. La.
Got to visit with two delightful
ladies at the Delta County
Nursing Home...Mrs. Lundy
Hooten of Cooper, and Mrs. A.
C. (Eunice) Vovles from Enloe.
They told us the Reverend Mr.
Paul Lamb, former pastor of
EDBC, and his son visited in
Cooper rect..:!/, and that the
Rev. Lamb plans to come to
Cooper to live. Missed seeing
Mrs. L. C. (Marjorie) Eppers,
who works there. She is
someone you don’t want to miss
seeing.
Ernest Shatten of Choctaw,
Okla. (74 on July 7) and Mrs.
Maudic Hastings of Atoka,
Okla. (79 on July 8) a
brother-sister team (Helen
Perry's second cousins) breezed
down to celebrate their birth-
days and to see Helen and
Edgar. They left here many
years ago and enjoy coming
back.
Mrs. Sallie Chambliss (Helen
Perry's double aunt....Aunt
Sallie's brother married her
husband’s sister...isn’t that a
double aunt?) rooms with Mrs.
Ada Coney of Pecan Gap at the
Manor. Miss Sallie has the same
love of life, sense of humor, and
gift of gab as her sister, Aunt
Jimmie George.
KUDOS: T. J. Scott gave the
land for the East Delta
Cemetery some years ago and
has done much to help with this
project. He is chairman of the
East Delta Cemetery Commit
tee. He reports much work has
been done but some individual
lots still need mowing. Dona-
tions have been received and
work is going forward on the
cemetery.
Eutah Chandler worked all
day on July 12. his "39th"
birthday and we hear Mickey
Goforth marked off a birthday
last week. Since Mickey was
working hard on the roads on
July 4, we're sure he did not
pause for his own birthday.
Excitement on the square in
Cooper Thursday afternoon.
Roy Lee Jackson family and
others representing East Delta
in the Rodeo Parade...Doe
Jackson (on Handy Davis) very
chic in a blue western
outfit.. .Debbie Blagburn on
Jumper...Jerry Jackson riding
Pistol. A number of families
enjoyed a picnic supper in the
park after the parade.
The Rodeo wound up with a
bang Saturday night and there
was dancing in the streets
afterward...a bunch of action
around the square...with coun-
try music and singing.
A thrill a minute at the
Ladonia 500 (inch) Terrapin
Race Saturday afternoon..really
some speedy ones there.
Harr\ and Bcena Patterson of
the Cooper Museum report a
nice letter from Mrs. Minnie
Hargrave of San Angelo,
recounting memories of her
father. Dr. Bill Wood, and other
Delta County doctors of days
gone by. The Pattersons are
awaiting pictures of and
information about the four
generations of Janes doctors
and Dr. Westerman of fond
memory.
Engaging in a favorite
pastime, hanging around the
Square in Cooper, we talked
with Mr. Wolfe Lowery (he has
never met a stranger). Called
Mrs. Lowery (the former Effte
Fox of Antioch) and discovered
he is just as pleasant at home.
Have you thought seriously
about what a nice gift (and
inexpensive) a subscription to
the Cooper Review makes?
Think about it. $4 in Delta and
surrounding counties and $5
elsewhere. Helen Perry and
Grace Swenson gladly take
subscriptions.
Mrs. D. S. McKinney of
Kensing passed away early last
Saturday. She was L. D.
Malone's aunt.
Mrs. Edna Turner of San
Antonio (grandmother of Janet
Toon) visited at the Methodist
Church Sunday.
Johnny Jackson (turned four
this week) was "sung to" at
church Sunday.

ground-in dirt. Then clean a
small area at a time with a soft

It's a good idea to try this first

If the colors don't run.
continue rubbing the suds into a
