fifteen members of the Junior
Bible Club, including new mem-
ber, Mrs W. D. Henderson, and
guest, Miss Ruth Glanville
The meyt ing opened w ith pray-
er voiced by Mrs. D. B. Baker.
The members answered roll
call with “Instances of Solo-
ma 's W isdom.”
M rs. Lynn Dotson, lesson lead-
er, presented as the devotional
“The Touch Of The Master’s
Hand.” with scripture reading
from Proverbs 11-23.
Assisting with the lesson were
Mmes. Baker, Hooten, Clovis
Hooten, J. C. McKinney, Fred
Potts, Olpha Alldridge, Hoyle
W insult, Grace Hendrix and VV.
B. Burns.
Mrs. Bernice Toon, parlia-
mentarian, conducted a Parlia-
mentry Drill following the les-
son.

service of refreshments to the
members and guest.
Mrs. Evelyn Reeves will ser-
ver as hostess id the next club

Initiate At ET
Miss Ruth Northum, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. William K.
Northum of Dallas and grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Her-
bert Manes of Cooper, was ini-
tiated into Phi Alpha Iheta
National History Honor Society
at East Texas State University.
Initiation took place in the
Honors Room of Gee Library
at 7 p.m on October3.Dr.John
Carrier, head of the History
Department, addressed the new
members following the initia-
tion. Sponsor of the Eta Beta
Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta is
Dr. Byron Parham, member
of the History faculty.
Miss Northum is a junior at
ETSU and plans to get a secon-
dary teaching certificate inHis-
tory and English.
Bell - Smith
Marriage Told
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Bell,
2411 Brookhaven, Tyler, an-
nounce the marriage of their
daughter, Joann Lee, to D.tin
Folger Smith on Saturday. Oct-
ober 13, in the Westminster
Presbyterian Church in Nacog-
doches. The Rev Charles Pul-
len officiated at the ceremony.
The groom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert F. Smith of
Lake Jackson. Mrs. Smith is
the daughter of the former Miss
Billie Sims and the granddau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Sims of Tyler, former resi-
dents of Cooper.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, chose a floor-
length gown of pale yellow
crepe. The bodice and sleeves
were embroidered in gold. She
carried a colonial bouquet of
mixed flowers in assorted col-
ors atop a small Bible she had
received as a child.
Mrs. J ill Davidson of Nacog-
doches, and Bob Ledlie of Hous-
ton attended the couple.
Mrs. Davidson was attired in
a navy and white floor length
dress and carried a bouquet
similar to that of the bride’s.
Mrs. Smith is a graduate of
Robert E. Lee High School in
Tyler and attended Tyler Jun-
ior College. She is currently
attending Stephen F. Austin Un-
iversity where she is a member
of Gamma Sigma Sigma.
The groom graduated from
high school in Lake Jackson
and attended Stephen F. Austin
University where he was a
member of Alpha Phi Omega.
He is now serving in the Navy
and will soon be stationed in
Sicily.
Following the wedding, the
newlyweds were honored at a
reception in the church parlor.
The refreshment table, laid with
a white cloth, was centered
with a multi-colored floral ar-
rangement flanked by burning
white tapers. Members of the
house party included Miss Julie
Bell, sister of the bride, Mrs.
Larry Kosta, sister of the
groom, and Mrs. Gary Carter.
Mrs. Smith will be at home
with her parents until such
time when she can join her
husband in Sicily.

Mi. and Mrs. Harry Patter-
son, who have travelled exten-
sively throughout the l nited
Sates, in Mexico and in Europe,
and especially in Texas, dis-
cussed the various areas of
their home state with members
of the Junior Afflatus Club
Thursday evening.
Introduced by Mrs. Booby
Irvin, Mr. Patterson first dis-
cussed the Panhandle region,
then West Texas, Dnllas-Eort
Worth Metroplex, North and
Fas' Texas. Gulf Coast and
South Texas, elaborating on the
environment of the various
areas, industry and tourist at-
tractions.
Following the program Mrs.
J. O. Shaw, club president,
conducted a business session

for the meeting held at theDe'ta
County Library-Museum, serv-
ed refreshments to Mr. and
M rs. Patterson and members.

of the program on Federation.
The topic included Changing,
Improving and Preserving Fed-
eration Clubs of Texas.
Minutes of the last meeting
wore read by Secretary Mrs.
Clovis Hooten and were ap-
proved.
Hostesses lor the November
20th meeting will be Mrs. Clo-
vis Hooten and Mrs. J. R.
Watkins and Mrs. Bryan Sparks
will be program leader.
Mrs. David Sullens and dau-
ghters, Lisa and Jennifer, of
Van Alstyne have been here
visiting her mother, Mrs. lroy
Kern, while Mr. Kern and Mr.
Sullens have been on a doer
hunt.

Ladybug Volunteers held a
Bake Sale October 13 and used
the proceeds to purchase two
folding tables for the Craft
Room.
Robert LaCoste will conduct
film time Thursday morning at
10 o’clock. All senior citizens
are invited to attend.
New residents at the Manor
are Mrs. Myrtle Gant, Leonard
Hadaway, Mrs.StellaBrecheen,
Mrs. Georgia Starks and Carl
Ewing.
Tray favors for Hallowe’en
are being made by the Act-
teens group.
Mrs. Linda Allen’s kinder-
garten class will Trick or Treat
at the Manor on October 30,
beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Ma-
nor is decorated throughout in
the Hallowe’en motif.
The Crafts Class is working
on many new items for the
Christmas season which will
be displayed in the living room
at the manor and at Dutch’s
Gas Service.
New arrangements for the
dining tables have been made
by the Crafts Class which fea-
ture cloth flowers accented with
baby's breath in Mexican wicker
baskets. Everyone is enjoying
them.
