EDITDRIALLI SPEAKINQ
The New Life Movement in Japan is taking on a definite
Hardin-Simmons University flavor. It represents the dream
and planning of "Dub" Jackson an H-SU alumnus. Now it
will include the Cowboy Band in addition to the many other
alumni who will take part.
We hve every right to be proud of .the recognition given
our alumni and students because of their accomplishments.
We also have the responsibility to do "our part.
'This promises to be one of the greatest movements in
the history "of the Southern aptist Convention and maybe
even in the history of Christianity. The fields are truly
white unto harvest for Christ in this most important of world
powers. The harvest will depend upon the prayers concern
and support of the movement by Christian people.
We salute the Cowboy Band in its moment of recogni-
tion. This truly is an outstanding honor for them. We pledge
them our support in 11 ways possible. We challenge them
to remember their responsibility and goal in making the trip.
May this be the davn of a new day in the land of the
rising sun.

Church-related schools "will not survive another decade if
present education trends continue and financial support
does not improve."
Thus the Abilene Reporter-News reports a speech made
last week by Rufus C. Harris president of Mercer University
a Baptist school in Macon Ga.
This presents a serious situation to students of Hardin-
Simmons University and other denominational schools. It
could mean that in ten years we will have degrees from a
school that no longer exists or which is 'definitely on the
down-grade.
The Reporter'-News editorial notes Harris's proposed
solution. "Baptist schools must not follow the -trends of state
schools toward bigness secularization or else they are doom-
ed to destruction. The hope for survival of the church-
related college lies in strengthening the liberal arts educa-
tion program and being distinctly 'Christian' in its purpose
and task."
s Harris pointed out that many seem to suggest that
church-related colleges will have to surrender to the state
and let the government do everything in education. He
thinks this would be tragic.
Certainly the speaker has pointed up a problem which
is ever-pressing on all denominational schools today. En-
dowments must be increased. .Faculty members must be
.brought to the schools instead of being lured away by the
;tte-upported schools or big industry.
This only emphasizes the necessity for the success of
-ihe Baptist Education Crusade and also serves as a reminder
-that even if the crusade is successful it is only a temporary
rmeasure. It will add to endowments and provide physical
plants but will not solve all the problems of Texas Baptist
JChools.
We can only conclude with the Reporter-News editorial
writer that "the support of alumni friends each denomina-
tion the community and business at large is essential to
the continued strength and progress of church-related col-
leges." 4
Upon graduation we cannot forget our alma mater. We
must continue to love and support it throui the years to
ensure its continued existence as a distinctive Baptist uni-
versity. We must always be able to sing with pride Har-din-Simmons
hail to thee."

Dtspitt Brand Moving
The news -will go through to
all Hardin-Simmons University
students despite momentary dif-
ficulties -Trent Butler Brand ed-
itor explained recently.
The Brand moved its offices
right after the Thanksgiving hol
idays and many students seem to
be having difficulty finding the
place to turn in information. Of-
fices are now in the northwest
end of the third floor of Mary
Frances Hall.
The Brand is also without tele-
phone service so that students at-
tempting to phone news in can-
not do so. It is hoped that this
condition fiwill be alleviated fn
the near future and that Brand

Hello out there in study land
(?). Here we go with another slam
session. Some people are just born
with the ability to slam and slice
and from some of the comments
heard around campus this report-
er had best not let his identity
be known to very many people.
What about those six Tau Alpha
Phi pledges who cut meetings.
"Hades" night was a real blast
for the boys.
Congratulations to Paulette Al-
len on finishing in the top five
in the Miss Rodeo of America
contest in Las Vegas recently.
She can truthfully say that she
is a real Cowgirl.
Charles Merritt has finally dev-
eloped his shirt-tearing technique
to its fullest extent. If you don't
believe it just ask John Hender-
son. Did you hear about Dena Hest-
er and her blind date that she
broke and then sat behind him
at a basketball game the same
night.
About this romance between
John Welsh and Judy Blair that
has developed out of nowhere.
Seems as though these upper-
classman girls can't resist these
good-looking (?) freshman boys.
Hats off to the Cooper High
School Choir who gave a wonder-
ful program in Chapel Monday.
Carolee Powell must have a big
romance going on in the basement
of the Student Center!
Too bad about Helen Galloway
and that mountain of snow she
ran into during Thanksgiving.
Better luck at Christmas Helen.
Much credit should be given to
the Senate on the fine work they
are doing on the "Adopt a Child"
day.
About that choir retreat????
Ann Bradley is still looking (?).
Beta Gamma Epsilon sending
in pledge Powell with the news.
Seems as though the pledges had
to take a test- at the last meet-
ing. Shirley Estes hamming it up
for the Brand photographer. Some
people 1
Chuck Gilmer is happy enough
to be the Behrens Beau. Congratu
lations Chuck. By the way did
you hear about the Chuck Gilmer
doll? You wind it up and it turns
red!
Some people are beginning to
wonder why Sandy Taylor has
gotten the name Blackie.
A certain girl said she would
be very mad if her name appear-
ed in this column again. So here
it is Miss Jeannie Mallow.
Linda Boardman is complaining
about not having enough formals
for all of her Bronco pictures.
Oh the price of popularity.
uuess that will be all for this
week. Before closing did you
hear about the Linda Shaddix
doll? You wind it and it gets
mad seeing its name in this
column every week.
