Republican Women
Support ‘Eldercare’
Mrs. B. J. Smith, past exe-
cutive secretary of the Wo-
man's Auxiliary of the Texas
Medical Association of Austin,
spoke to the Fayette County
Republican Women’s club on
Tuesday, March 23, in the
home of Mrs. Ted Houghton.
Her topic was "Eldercare
versus Medicare," which in-
formed the ladies present why
Eldercare is the best answer to
the health care needs of the el-
derly. After a very informative
talk and discussion the club
went on record as supporting
the Eldercare legislation. Each
member was asked to write
Representative Clark W.
Thompson to support Elder-
care instead of any other
health care plan.
It was announced that the
next meeting would be on Ap-
ril 27, at 2 p. m. again in the
home of Mrs Houghton, presi-
dent.
Five new members were al-
so welcomed into the club. The
meeting ended with refresh-
ments of coffee and cookies.
Garden Club Holds
Flower Workshop
Mrs. Oren Eskew of Bas-
trop, a nationally accredited
amateur flower show judge,
presented a workshop on flow-
er arranging at the La Grange
Garden club meeting Thurs-
day in the Fellowship Room of
the Masonic hall.
The workshop started at 10
o’clock and the members who
had brought their own mate-
rials and flowers with which
to work, created their own ar-
rangements with suggestions
and assistance furnished by

ODHS Enjoys Its
Quarterly Social
A barbecued chicken supper
was the highlight of the March
18 meeting of La Grange Her-
mann Sons lodge, a social be-
ing enjoyed every three
months.
On the committee for the
party were Mr. and Mrs. Del-
ton Lincke, chairmen, Mr. and
Mrs. Gus Hausmann, Mr. and
Mrs. R. E. Keilers, Mr. and
Mrs. Oscar Moellenberndt,
Mrs. Delta Hausmann and Mil-
ton Schmidt.
The president, M. O. Schell-
berg, presided at the business
meeting. It was disclosed that
the lodge had contributed to
the hospial fund drive which is
now underway. Recognition
was also given the Gerh. Jans-
sens who recently observed
their golden wedding anniver-
sary.
Delegates to the Diamond
Jubilee State convention
which will be held in San An-
tonio April 25-27 are Raymond
Lampe and Monroe Schell-
berg. Alternates are Delton
Lincke and Ed. B. Meyer.
Mrs. Eskew. After a covered
dish luncheon at noon, Mrs.
Eskew judged the arrange-
ments pointing out errors and
then rearranged some of them
to show how they should have
been done. She also made an
arrangement of her own which
was very beautiful.
This visit was Mrs. Eskew’s
second to the local club and
all agreed that the workshop
was very interesting and edu-
cational.
During the business meeting
which followed, announcement
was made of the coming flow-
er show which will be held on
Tuesday, April 27 in the Fel-
lowship Hall of the Travis
Street Methodist church. Also,
that the District V meeting
will be held in Austin on
Tuesday, April 13 with the dis-
trict governor, Mrs. D. N.
Boltz of Killeen presiding.
The next meeting of the lo-
cal club will be on Thursday,
April 22 when final plans for
the flower show will be made.
There are nine such area
workshops now being conduct-
ed by Mrs. C. H. Warner of
Austin and Mrs. O. T. Bengs-
ton of Round Rock.
The ladies taught how to
present Bible Study in meet-
ing for devotions and what
programs should all contain in
order to make them effective.
