Meetings will be held during the
first and third weeks of every
month.
"We feel that we can get
greater participation by all ath-
letes and other interested per-
sons by holding most of our
sessions during the regular noon
hour" Carpenter said. Special
programs occasionally will be
held at night.
Membership in the chapter is
not limited to varsity athletes

Coach Glen Whitis' basketball
squad suffered its first physical
blow of the year Friday when it
was learned that Lyneal James
Cisco Junior College transfer
forward from Colorado City
would have to undergo foot sur-
gery Monday.
James who was being counted
on to battle for a starting berth
on this season's varsity broke
his foot when he slipped on
pavement at his home this past
summer. It was thought the in-
jury was healing but an examin-
ation this past week showed that
surgery was advisable Whitis
said.
The Pokes were plagued with
injuries last season with as
many as five regulars sidelined
at once.
With James now hobbling two
members of the 12-man varsity
are at less than par Whitis said.
Tom Jahns who had knee surg-
ery last spring for a mid-season

Get tickets
now Whitis
urges staff
Faculty and staff members
have been urged by Coach Glen
Whitis to pick up their season
tickets for basketball games soon
if they plan to attend Cowboy
games this winter.
"We would like to see every-
one connected with H-SU come
to every game" Whitis said.
"Our former policy of providing
tickets to faculty and staff still
goes. We want to have the best
seats in the coliseum."
A slight change in the system
this year is that instead of books
of tickets the season tickets are
in card form with the holder
keeping the card and showing it
at the gate for every game.
Students will be admitted on
a activity cards and will occupy
the yellow chairs at courtside.
The faculty-staff tickets are
being promoted by Kenneth Hill
who also is representing the
Cowboy Club on campus in its
annual membership drive.
The Cowboy Club; which is
the athletic booster organization
has a minimum membership rate
of $10 per year. Several dozen
faculty and staff personnel an-
nually jom theclub Hill said.
Funds it provides are handled
through the university but are
applied toward suqh athletic
needs as recruiting and special
equipment
outs begining Oct. 15.
"We don't know whether Tom
will be able to play early in the
season" Whitis said.
The Cowboys will have s i x
weeks of official workouts to
prepare for their first game
which is Dec. 1 in Iowa City
against the University of Iowa
a Big Ten school.
MARK CARPENTER
ever participated in organized
sports even in high school and
who maintains an interest in
athletics. Faculty members are
included and are welcome to
attend the meetings Carpenter
stressed.
Russell Berry assistant bas-
ketball coach and head tennis
coach is faculty sponsor of the
chapter.
