Personal!
Week-,
life as colorful and adventurous as
any r^Zorded in Texas history. As an
Indian fighter, a champion of Texas
Independence, a Confederate Briga-
dier General-and a U. S. Marshal,
Ben McCulloch was a man of action
and of devotion to duty and his state.
The Battle of San Jacinto was history.
with Ben playing an active part,
when Surveyor Ben McCulloch laid
Out the offginal plat for the town-
ship of Segutn. That year, 18J8,
he joined Captain Jack Hays'
Texas Rangers and saw extensive
Indian fighting.
During the war with Mexico which
followed the annexation of Texas by
the United Suites. Ben commanded
the ' McCulloch Rangers/' Before tfce
decisive Battle of Buena. Vista ,he
Marshal, as Commissioner to, settle
Mormon -troubles in Utah and as a, ,
ranking officer in the Confederate
Army always ready to defend the-
rights and independence of his
people, wherever and whenever
duty called. >
Today Texans still demand, and get
their right to choose the way they
want to live. In this vigorous and
freedom minded homeland . . "Beer
