Congratulations to the
graduating seniors of
Edgewood and surround-
ing towns in the county.
Edgewood is full of happy
kids this week due to the fi-
nal day of school on Wed-
nesday and graduation ex-
e re Wes on Friday night.
However, it seems that
many of them are still go-
ing to be pretty busy this
summer, judging from the
good turn-out for the Sum-
mer League Baseball,
which is already well un-
derway with practice ses-
sions and even a few scrim-
mage games. Apparently it-
will be a busy time for
parent* as well, what with
transporting kiddos to
practice and games, and
especially for those who
have volunteered their ser-
vices for the coaching acti-
vities. We appreciate those
who are giving of their
time to do this for our area
children.
A district-wide Church
of God revival was held last
week on the Edgewood Dis-
trict, with services being
held at a different church
on the district each night
throughout the week. The
Edgewood Church of God
was the host church on Fri-
day night with the pastor,
the Rev. George Murphy,
ministering in the service.
The youth of the Edge-
wood Church of God spon-
sored a bake sale last Sa-
turday to raise funds for a
church trip. Plans are be-
ing made for other fund-
raising projects in the near
future.
The ladies of the
Edgewood Church of God
hosted a tea on Sunday,
May 20, for Miss Jami Bar-
ton, bride-elect of Joe Mar-
tin Rice III of Wills Point.
Twelve ladies were served
refreshments of almond
crescents, fudge bon-bons,
orange punch, and iced
tea, which was served in
stemmed crystal goblets
engraved with the names
and pictures of the twelve
apostles. The honoree was
presented with a brass
touch tronsc lamp from '
ladies of the church.
The regular monthly
meeting of the Wills Point
Poetry Society was held in
the City Hall on Thursday,
May 24. Members present
were: Buz Craft, Fred;
Hollister, Alma Hay*,*'
Evelyn Roberts, Iota
Robertson and Nelda
Jones.
Nelda Jones presented
the program with another
chapter of our study course
on poetry writing. Original
poems were read by Fred
Hollister, Iola Robertson
and Evelyn Roberts. Buz
Craft played a tape of a
song he recently composed
entitled "Countryman’s
Cafe-
Projects were discussed
for the upcoming Texas
Sesquicentennial. One
such project discussed was
the possibility of having a
checkers tournament, with
each town or community
having contests to select a
champion to represent
their community in a play-
off tournament to be held
in Wills Point for a Van
Zandt County Champion.
Anyone who is interested in
such a contest is asked to
contact Buz Craft at Box
565, Wills Point, 75169, so
that plans and details can
be worked out.
