While moire Is much favored, com-
bined with another fabric such as gab-
| ardine, serge or poplin, taffeta leads
j w hen it. comes to the pannier draped
l skirt. There is a quality to this silk
I .which enables it to resist creasing and
! flattening; after sitting for hours at
“bridge'’ or in a theatre, a touch is
sufficient to bring the pannier back to
its original puff. There are many
quaint figures brought out in this silk;
brocades on taffeta foundations, fine
and closely placed stripes, and almost
invisible plaids are among the most
favored, of the patterns.
A .combination of plain and figured
taffeta is shown in No. 8259; the foun-
dation color is champagne and the fig-
ure is brought out in blue and modore.
< hampagne Is one of the most popular
shades and is being used for both after-
noon and evening. This is an over-
blouse design, and if preferred a blouse
of lace may be worn instead of the
plain taffeta. To copy this frock in
size 36,-5% yards of 42-inch material
is heeded. • Taffeta averages 38 to 45
inches in width and
$1.25 a yard and up.
The second figure shown here dis-
plays a suit of dark-blue gabardine.
A modish feature of this suit;is the
belt and circular tunic section on the
coat; the skirt is distinctive because
of its straight lines and the box-plaits
arranged on either side of the front
and back. This suit may be made in
size 36 with 3^ yards (of 36-inch
material) for the coat (8278) and 3H
yards of the same width for the skirt
(8197). Gabardine is priced from
$2.50-per yard and up.
