An awesome display of light-
ning accompanied the rain Tues-
day night. About 1:0<» o’clock a
m. a bolt of lightning struck
the small garage at the A. J
Ricks’ residence, near the stand
pipe, scoop* d an armful of
shingles out of the roof, smash-
ed a rafter into splinters, fol-
lowed the telephone wire to the
corner of the house, then jump-
ed sideways to two nails,
driven into the weatherboard-
ing, acted as conductors, through
which the bolt entered the bed-
room where Glenn Ricks was
sleeping on a i>ed in the middle
of the room. Glenn says it
‘ looked to him like two balls of
fire leaped from the wall clear
across his bed. The stroke set
I the wall paper on fire, which
! was quickly extinguished with-
out assistance from Glenn, and
without damage of great con-
sequence. It is presumed a
dinging clothes wire grounded
the lightning, and in all likeli-
1 hood prevented more serious
damage.
