and daughter left Tuesday morning for
Nashville, Tennessee. They will visit
relatives there and in other Tennessee
points and expect to be away two

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hamilton and
little daughter, of Grand Prairie, Tex-
as, arrived in Aransas Pass Wednes-
day and will make this their home.
-Mrs. Hamilton is a sister of Mrs.
Ted Campbell. They will be at home
•with Mr. and Mrs. Campbell on Hous-
ton Street for the present.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Conk, of Dal-
tes, are here for a week’s visit with
their brother, I. C. Couk and family.
They arrived here Sunday and ex-
pect to return Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Snyder spent
Tuesday and Wednesday at McAllen,
guests -of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Wal-
thall, on their friut farm there.
Will Turn Justice of
Peace Office Over
After 10 Years
Justice of the Peace Carl Utterback
will retire from Justice of the Peace’s
office after ten. years’ faithful service.
He succeeded Judge M. P. Yarbor-
ough, who resigned from the office in
the early twenties.
When asked by a Progress represen-
tative this week how many couples he
had married in his ten years office
term, he replied, “Oh my, J don’t
know.”
He resigned the office for a short
period during. the ten yeai’s period
while he was deputy fish and oyster
commissioner under one of the Fergu-
son administrations—and C. Jackson
held the place for that period, turning
the office back to him after a brief
time.
Judge Utterback received 265 votes
in Saturday’s election in the Aransas
Pass box and N. D. Sanfoi-d, his op-
ponent. received 267—two votes dif«
ferent—mighty close.
Mi's. Ethel Barron and Mr> Bond
spent the week-end in San Marcos.
Mr. Bond went to see his son there
who is ill. Mrs. Barron went to
transact business in San Marcos.
Legion Install
Officers at Wed.
Night Meeting
The American Legion held an in-
stallation meeting at the city hall here
Wednesday night at which time of-
ficers for the legion and ladies auxil-
iary were installed.
Ice- cream and cake Were served
during the social part of the meeting.
There is a fine spirit among the
legion members, and a healthy growth
in membership is expected.
Worth Howard, who had returned
from Washington whei’e he w,as with
the bouns army, made a report.

E. It. Clark who lives neighbor to
C. W. Johnson on the Bunge place
about two miles from town was con-
victed of a charge of assault on
Johnson in a trial here Tuesday be-
fore Justice court.
Mr. Clark was charged with strik-
ing Mr. Johnson with a stick, which
in a broken condition was in evidence
in ' court.
Mr. Clark was represented by Judge
Wohlford, and the state was repre-
sented by County Ajttorney Rockey
Harkey.
The jury that heard the case and
'brought in the verdict consisted of
A. A. Allen, John Gheaney, A. F.
Burgan, A. Singler, and V. Johnson.
A short while ago Clark made a
complaint against 'Jiohnson for dis-
turbing the peace, and result of the
complaint he was fined $1 and costs,
totaling $13.00.
Other cases tried in Justice Court
recently was one against) Marcus
Benavides charged with assault with
attempt to rob. Preliminary trial
resulting in releasing Benavides.
Another w<as cases against Doyle
W. Duncan and Dounan Angell,
charged with burglary. They wlere
bound over to await the action of
tbe Grand Jury.

Meeting Old Friends
at the Pass and Here
T. J. Rock, of Houston, arrived here
Tuesday for a ten days or two weeks
visit, and is meeting old-friends. He
is a former tourist, and formerly
lived at the Pass two years and at
Port Aransas one year. He is a. for-
mer business man and former owner
off the Rock Map Company of Hous-
ton.
He is now practically retired, having
arrived at. the age of 70 years.

Mrs. Santoos and Hubert Cooper of
Whorten were the guests of Marvin
Hunt and his mother last week.
Rev. A. T. White left Sunday for
Blaneonia wliei’e he will hold a re-
vival. He was accompanied by Mrs.
White and Alton.
Mrs. Fannie Echols of- Dallas spent
Thursday with Miss Lucie and How-
ard Bai-nett. Mrs. Echols has charge
of the A. T. O. boys at the Southei*n
Methodist University, Dallas.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hultgren of
Ingleside were visiting friends in
Gregory Tuesday morning.
Mrs. W. T. Brunson was the guest
of her sister, Mrs. Guy Griffin of
Sinton Saturday.

Wm. Kopperl Is
Out After Operation
Wm. Kopperl, who underwent an
operatioxx at a hospital in Coitus
Christi on Wednesday evening, July
13tlx, is able to be out again.
Mr. Kopperl was ill for a day, when
the attending physician advised an
opex-ation for appendicitis. He was
taken that evening to Corpus Christi
and the opex’ation was performed im-
mediately. He returned home the
past Thursday.

An encampment was discussed and
plans were made to sell tickets for
a show in the near future.

Bennie Joe Fargason
Recovers From Injury
Bennie Joe, five year old daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Fargason is
sufficiently recovered from injuries
received on a vacation trip to be
about again.
Mr. and Mrs. Fargason and child-
ren were on a vacation trip and were
Visiting relatives at Crockett. The
little girl was struck across the head
with a heavy iron while playing in
the yard. An ugly gash was made—
a scalp wound.
First aid treatment was given and
the child brought hack home the
same evening, terminating the vaca-
tion trip immediately.
