about twelve mouths in McKinney
the Union Telephone Company has

handsome new diiectory containing
over eight hundred names of some
of the best people in Collin coun-
ty which was printed by this office.
The big book has been looked for-

ulated upon their wonderful achieve-

Arch Hodge, member of the firm
of the Wfst-Cullom Paper Co. of
Dallas, and one of the popular trav-
eling salesmen of that prosperous
paper supply house, dropped In to
see us Friday night, while en route
to his home at Greenville, in which
city he makes headquarters. He
left this morning for Greenville,
where he will spend Sunday with
home folks. Arch has teen in the
printing business all his life, having
been foreman of the Greenville Her-
ald for many years before going on
the road for the West-Cullom Paper
Co., some ten years ago. Ha is a
splendid young man, sober, indus-
trious and knows his business and
attends to it. He is well liked by
all the newspaper men of the state,
rnd says that he will meet with the
boys of the Texas Press Association
next week at San Antonio. We had
an hour’s pleasant chat with him, re-
calling many years’ doings of the
great press of Texas. Like the writ-
er, he was pained at the death of
cur mutual friend, Sid Thomas, many
years a Texas newspaper man, and
former president of the Texas Press
Association. We were greatly pleas-
ed at Archie’s visit to our office, and
hope that he will come and see us
as often as possible.

Shand, of the state of Illinois, and
wife, of Springfield, the capital of
that state, are guests of his cousin,
Mrs. W. L. Boyd, in McKinney, for
the Shriners Imperial Council which
meets in Dallas during the next
week. Gen. Shand has held his
present high position in IiIb state
during several state administrations.
He is one of the many distinguished
visitors that are now arriving in
Dallas to attend the Imperial Coun-
cil of the Shriners, and McKinney
is proud of the honor, through Mrs.
Boyd, of entertaining one of the
most prominent personages among
the thousands of Shriners now
guests in the Lone Star State.

Virgil Kemp, one of Snow 'illll’s
most successful farmers, was trans-
acting business in the city Wednes-
day and to a representative of the
Daily Courier-Gazette and Demo-
crat-Gazette, stated that the recent
rains have been the cause of a boom
on the east side of no small dimen-
sions.
