America’s Freedom.
The American Legion standi forth

ganized representation of those days
when the Nation’s Soul was tried ond
when men gladly and bravely gave
their all for America’s Freedom.
Tuesday, the 30th day of May, Is
the day set apart for a Nation-wide
recognition of these heroes who gave
themselves that we might live, and that
freedom might be preserved among
men nnd nntions. And, ns Baylor
County'a 'part in that program, th<
American Legion will render a program
on the above date, at 6:00 o’clock at
the Baptist church nnd from there will
go to the cemetery to decorate the
graves of their comrades who died In
line of duty. j
The general public would M well
to take active port and attend these
services, the American Legion will re-
gard as a special favor ench and every
flower that is furnished to them for
this occasion. / ,,

The town of Jacksboro has taken

tlon of a sewer system. The issue
carried by a vote of two to one.. It
looks like a bad time now to fSrl^
curring new financial obligations, but
Jacksboro is getting something she
will not regret. Seymour city dads
might give the Jacksboro Connell a
few pointers on where to locate their
disposal plant.
The church people there are getting
fleusy, also, nnd the Presbyterians are
putting trp a building similar to the
church just completed at Seymour.
Furthermore, Mr, O. H, rfotbee, who
was the contractor for the building
here, will erect the Jacksboro church.

The electric hydraulic dredge, T. B.
Noble, will be formally launched at
.the Storage Dam near Mabelle, Baylor
County, Texas, on Tuesday, May 30th,
1022, at 1:30 p. m. >
This dredge is b#ing*construeted by
the Pugot Sound Bridge and Dredging
Company of Seattle, Washington, for
us1* In building the main part of the
storage dam embankment, aggregating
about 1,260,000 cubic yards.
The d|edge will be operated with
electricity, which wil be transmitted
over ii power line from the Wichita
Falls Eelctrlc Company station at
Wichita Falls, from a distance of 41
in I It s. T|ils line will carry an electric
convent at 38,000 volts.
The estimated capacity of the dredge
is 260,000 cubic yards of earth mater-
ial per month, m , r
The dredge la 40 feet wide and 111
feet long. It will draw about 5 feet
of water. The cutting ladder is 76 feet
long and can excavate to a depth of
50 feet below the surface of the wnter
upon which the boat floats.
The principal electric motor is rated
at. 12000 horsepower at 220 volts. >

shipped -from Seattle, Washington,
Most of the timber of which it wns
built is Douglas fir shipped from As-
toria, Oregon.

ler, vice-president of Seattle, Washing

The Chamber of Commerce will take
with them the Seymour Band, fgid
everyone has a special invitation to
be in attendance at. the launching of
this dredge. The Seymour delegation

Hon. D. F. Goss is getting to be
a popular orator for graduating ad-
dresses. He was at Mogargel Friday
night for the closing exercises of the
school there, and some of his audience
were kind enough to say his speech
waa the finest they ever heard. Six
graduated from that school this term.
Prof, H. L. Garner is at the head and
be is creating a real school spirit in
that community. Rome of these days
the banner editor is going with Judge
Goss and h*gr one of his speeches, but
from previous experience we are sure
he is telling his hearers something
worth while, % ,

Babbit Drive.
There wilt be a rabbit drive at Red
Springs, Wednesday May 3L Every,
one meet at Bed Springs, at 8:30. Din-
ner on the ground at Pink Ilagard’s
tank on Benjamin Poad. Everybody
come.
Presbyterian Meeting Closes.
The Presbyterian meeting closed on
last Sunday night. A large crowd was
present ond Evangelist llien T. Jones
delivered an unusually strong sermon.
The meeting has been a blessing to
the church and the town. Bev. Jones
renewed his old acquaintanceships anil
formed many new ones, and the ser-
mons he preached here will live in
the hearts of his hearers. We hope
he will como and hold another meet-
in gfor us some time.
Mr. 1L B. McDavbl is 'back from
Fort Worth, whore he bps be.en for
some time on eotton business. He will
buy eotton here this fall and will be
at home now for awhile.
Closing of the Com School
Mention should have been made Inst
week of the closing of the Com school,
on May 12, with an all day picnic, on
Miller Creek.
The pupils and teachers,, Miss De
Bay Bryan, principal and Miss Glee
Snyder assistont, together wilth the
good patrons of the school spent a very
enjoyable day and had many good
things to eat.
This closed one of the most success
fnl terms of school thiy coimnunity ha*
ever enjoyted. The term; extended
through about, eight months nnd the
results - are best showd and known
through tho pupil* and patrons and
many very commendable comments arc
heard.
Chamber of Commerce Lunch.
Tba Chamber of Commeree met yes-
terday at the Club cafe, with 32 mem-
bers present. • v:„
A very interesting report was made
by Secretary B. E. Baskin on the West
Texas Chamber of Commerce meeting
at PJainview. '■
Invitation of the irrigation people
was accepted for members to attend
the launching of the dredge, T. B.
Noble, at the dam site on May 30,
ut 1:80. There will be plenty of time
for tho visitors to get back for Mem-
orial exercises.
Motion was corried that the Cham-
ber of Commerce assist tho Americon
Legion in furnishing flowers for Mem-
orial Day services at Baptist church
ut 6:00 o’clock May 30.

school* for their splendid work during
the past year for the Chamber of Com

The only thing that, could be said ft-

Monday night there were two re-
citals, tho one of Mrs. Fleming nnd
ond by Mrs. M, L. Coy and her clast.
The latter waa„assis|ed by Miss Kath-
ryn Burchel, Both were fine and both
had nice crowds.
Tuesday night tho Seniors present
ed their play, Tho Dream that ('itme
True. They wbre greeted by a large
audience, ond It was an appreciative
one. If everybody thought about the
Seniors like Seymour people they could
spend the rest of, their time giving
this play over the country. Not only
wa# a pleasant evening spent, but the
play showed the histrionic ability of
the graduating clatss. The sum of 8135
wns realized, with which to lay the
walk in front of the High School, i

for the grade sehool, and Bev. W. ft.
Hinds will deliver tho address.
Tomorrow night will b* tho High
School graduation, with Dr. E. B. At.

as .speaker of the evening. This will
he the crowning event of the exer-
cises.

and we understand it has turned out l
West Texas Chamber Commerce
Secretary B. E. Baskin made bis
report yosterduy to the Chamber of
| Commerce on the meeting held Mon-
day and Tuesday at Plalnview. Mr.
Baskin got in that morning from the
meeting, having driven all night, {n
) the ear with him were Messrs. 8. Gor-
man nnd H. W. Emsoff.
A full report of this meeting is uot
given this week, for the reason that,
the Banner editor did not get homo
until this meeting, but wo will havo
an account of this big event.
Seymour Defeats Newcastle.
Mr. Hardy Brown was hero from
Childress over night last night. Ho
is still-with the Gulf Befitting Com-
pany and says he likes his new home
fine. He and family will be back, to
visit relatives when) they can stay
longer.
Miss Nannie McLeod of Henryetta,
Ok in., is here for a visit with her
friend, Miss Neva Merrick. She says
she is well pleased with her Oklahoma
home, but oh yon Seymour,- and she
is going to stay here until they come
after her.
Mr. J. W. Cope left this morning
for Fort Worth to bring in some Stud-
ebakcr cars.

Plans were perfected here last Sat-
urday for the immediate installation
of a 3,000 meter radio receiving set
the primary purpose of which is to se-
cure the Texas radio news market serv-
ice as well as the entertainment fea-
tures which will result from tho con-
nection. The instrument will bo in-
stalled in the quarters of the 8#ymour
chamber of commerce where bulletin
board service will be maintained in
order to reeord the daily market quo-
tations which are broadcasted at eer
tain periods of the day.
It has also been planned to 'combine
with the service to be so secured, oe
caslonal open air entertainments in
front of the chamber of commerce Quar-
ters, mndn possible by the attachment
of the magnetic vacuum amplifier. The
radio wjjl nlso be used for special even-
ing entertainments during the pure
food and textile show to be hel(l_hero
June 8, 9, and 10.

The Seymour ball team vanquished
the Newcastle team in two games on
Friday and Saturday. Good crowd*
were present at the gamos and receipts
went to the school athletic fund.
The first day Troy Stallings flung
the spheroid and the score was 18 to
2 In favor of Seymour. Mr. Stallings
is making a record for himself and
if he keeps that lick up he will be
heard from during his college days.
‘Moody pitched the second day and the
score wss 7 to 0 in favor of the home
team.
