SUNDAY SCHOOLS GROWING.
It is interesting to note that in the
last ten years the Texas Sunday Schools
have inftreasod over 50 per cent in
membership, whereas the last census
shows the total population of Texas in
creased 20 per cent in the ten years.
The rapid strides of the Sunday
schools have encouraged the leader*
to believe that it is possible to double
the membership within the next qua
drenium, and the slogan adopted is
“One million more members in the next
three years.”
While the progress is difficult in some
sections of the State, yet other sections
can go over that goal proportion, and
it is believed if all Will go to work at
the job at the same time the 1,000,000
new members will be reached in lw
than the suggested time.
If Dallas can do It others can do it
If Fort Worth can do it others can dc
it. If Waco can do it others can do it
If other cities and larger towns can dc
it the whole State ,cnn do it.
Many schools in Dallas have doubled
within two years.' Many classes have
doubled within the last year. Many
classes have increased 600 per cent In
two years.
More men are going to the Sunday
school these rfsys than ever before
More women are attending the Sunday
school than ever before. More ’teep
age boys rind girls are sticking to tht
Sunday school today than ever before.
The leaders always have argued tha!
if the fathers and mothers eame to
the Sunday school it would be easy V.
hold the adolescent, who formerly Jefl
the school in the middle ‘teens, many
of them never do return.
The organized classes have solved
the problem along this line, for here the
class provides a task of pleasing service
to every member.
The Sunday school learned the secret
of the drawing power of a lodge siml
Tar organization, through it bencvolen!
spirit, its. fellowship and service, and
lias appropriated the principles of these
organizations, so that all the attrac
tions of same arc embraced in the class,
plus Bible study and, Christian service
around the church organization.
’ Don’t Encourage Them
Transients with stuff to sell that can
be purchased hero should not have tho
encouragement of our citizen*. The
man who carriers his stock in a “fliv-
ver” and makes the street corner his
place of business should be urged ,be-
fore he has had an opportunity to dis-
play his wares, to move on to the next
town. The peddler with the good slung
across his back shonld be given to
understand that the very streets he
walks on are partly paid for by our
home town merchants, and that they
too, help in keeping those streets in re-
pair. The little they pay in license,
these transients, doesn’t benefit th»
town enough to warrant their presence.
If the license won’t keep them out, put
it up to where it will. Local mer-
chants, men who have thoir money in-
vested here and who pay taxes here
and are entitled to every consideration.
And protection from eheapjohn transi-
ents is a consideration nAt to be over-
looked.—EX. <

The company has liabilities of about
225,000 tynl assets of 930,000, the latter
consisting of bills receivable, stock,
fixtures rind real estate. The company
does a business of about four million
dollars annually. *
“It would be betraying no secret,’
says the article In the Chicago paper,
“to sny that the White Produce corn
puny has run along for the past year
practically on its nerve. It is known
to have lost $220,000 in tK? spring egg
crop deal of 1921. When tho famoin
drop of 9 cents a dozen fell on one dny.
the White Produce company had 21 cars
rolling the market. Later it stored
eggs to the cast heavily but the lack
of finances prevented holding for n
more favorable market and many of
these were disposed of at a loss.”
For several months the company had
been hard pressed by banks, owing a
total of 962,750 to those in Denison at
the time of tho receivership after mak-
ing substantial reductions. Tt was the
constant strain on its resources that
apparently brought on the receivership.
Several branch houses, including those
at Texarkana, Paris and Fort Worth
wer# sold and the money applied on an
indebtedness. When the Paris house
was sold to G. P. Foster of Hugo, Okla.

on time each day this month.

a little slackening on the part of some
of tho parents in allowing thoir child-
ren to go to ball games (luring uchocl
hours and to picnics during school
nights. We don’t think this is conduc-
ive to good scholarship and sincerely
protest, against It.

tendency to make .nir boys and girls a
little indolent, but we hope this will
