support Powell's offer He said
he doesn't know if the decision
to build the annex in Ingleside is
final but that he feels the city
should endorse the offer
because it would save the
taxpayers quite a bit of money.
Marshall said he feels the
county is making a big mistake
in not taking a good look at the
offer
Councilman J T Buckmaster
agreed with Marshall and said
he would like to see the annex in
Aransas Pass
Councilman Bill Howe while
agreeing that he would like to
see the annex in Aransas Pass
and that Aransas Pass would be
a better location because it has
the population and business said
the county may be looking at a
lack of parking space at tlm
bank building
Marshall said if this is true
the county should be approach
ed to show just what off street
parking it would need at the
bank site "I hate to see them
spend $250,000 or $300,000 of our
money,” said Marshall
Marshall said arrangements
could be made for parking and
that perhaps some meters could
bo removed to allow for free
parking "It would not only be in
the interest of Aransas Pass but
of San Patricio County as well,”
said Marshall, if the county
were to locate the annex in
Aransas Pass and save the
money
The council instructed city
manager Al Holguin to draft a
letter to the Commissioners
Court stating the city 's endorse-
ment of locating the annex in
Aransas Pass
Mayor J M Attaway said lie
would like to go on record as
abstaining from voting in the
matter and did not take part in
discussion Attaway is a
director in the bank
City attorney Ronald Yeager
suggested that citizens in the
other three precincts be
contacted, or copies of the letter
be sent to them, because they
may lx* interested in how their
tax money is being spent and at
the same time suggest they
contact their commissioners
Yeager said this move could
take the pressure off Pat
Kindle, Precinct 4 County
Commissioner, who has been
caught m the middle because he
has to serve both Aransas Pass
and Ingleside
Ingleside city officials argue
that the building would have to
under go ctos+fy extensive
renovation to meet standards
for a public building and that
there will be insufficient
parking
Another argument is that
people who live in Aransas Pass
in Aransas County will not
hestllate to use the facilities
provided by San Patricio
i minty The annex is slated to
/include facilities for a health
< lime, auto registration and
welfare offices The use of the
facility, it is argued, by Aransas
County residents would in
crease the financial burden on
San Patricio County.
