Miss Karen Edwards Becomes Bride
Of William Claude Hickman Saturday
In a candlelight setting
Saturday evening at the First
Christian Church in Corpus
Christi, Miss Karen Gay
Edwards and William Claude
Hickman, both of San Antonio,
pledged double ring wedding
vows.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Joe
Eddings of Ingleside and the
groom is the son of Mr and Mrs.
Cecil Hickman of Bishop.
The wedding vows were read
by the Rev. Clifford Taylor. The
background setting was formed
with tall brass half round
candelabra tree holding white
votive candles entwined with
greenery, pink gladiolas, white
mums, and pink carnations.
Flanking the altar were brass
spiral candelabras entwined
with greenery with burning
white tapers.
Traditional wedding music
was played by Mrs. Marsha
Caravantes and Dennis H.
Phillips, soloist, sang “Love
Devine All Love Excelling.”
and the “Wedding Benedic-
tion”.
Given in marriage by her
grandfather, Wilbur A Ed-
wards of Ingleside, the bride’s
gown was reminiscent of the
Victorian era A yoke of Cluny
lace, y’d to the waistline, was
trimmed with dainty ruffled
edging and tiny buttons. Pink
satin ribbons was run through
the gathered lace that formed
the yoke and wedding band
collar Long full sleeves of satin
organza were gathered at the
wrist with the same lace ending
in a circular flounce. The
voluminous skirt of ivory hued
satin organza fell from a
natural waistline only to end in
a pink satin and lace ruffle that
encircled the entire length of
the court train.
Her veil of ivory Alencon and
Venetian point lace fell from
molded toque with chapel
length illusion bordered com-
pletely with matching laces.
She wore a sixpence in her shoe.
She carried a bouquet of
miniature cushioned pink and
yellow daisies blended with
pompom mums, stephanotis,
and red roses clustered with
baby's breath and salal foliage
with a white orchid in the

For something old she wore a
heirloom ring belonging to the
maternal grandmother, Mrs.
Nora Shipper Scott.
Miss Leah Rae Edwards,
sister of the bride, was maid of
honor. Mrs. Joe Kenneth
Leighton Jr. of Corpus Christi
was matron of honor and
bridesmaids were Mrs. Gary
Arthur Edwards, sister-in-law
of the bride and Mrs. Larry
William Macune of San Antonio.
They wore identical halter
gowns of pink dotted Swiss,
styled with smocked empire
bodices and self ruffles trim-
ming the necklines and
shoulders. Matching capes with
self ruffles were worn by each
attendant.
They carried nosegay spring
flower bouquets of pink, yellow
and white daisies, sweetheart
roses and baby’s breath. For
their headpieces they wore
small headbands of spring
flowers matching their bou-
quets
Serving as best man was
Robert Mitchell Hickman of
Bishop, the groom’s brother
Groomsmen were Edward A.
Jaksa Jr. and Robert Eugene
Franks of Houston and Joe
Kenneth Leighton of Corpus
Christi.
Ushers were Gary Arthur
Edwards of San Antonio,
brother of the bride, Larry W.
Macune of San Antonio and
James Allen Henry of Corpus
Christi.
The groom’s attendants wore
brown Windsor tuxedos and
pink ruffled shirts.
The bride’s mother wore a
jade mist chiffon gown with a
draped bodice and flowing floor
length skirt. Long panels of
chiffon were attached at the
shoulders She wore matching
accessories and a band of
yellow sweetheart roses in the
back of her hair.
The groom’s mother wore a
floor length pink chiffon dress
with irridescent ballero jacket.
She wore a tierra of pink
sweetheart roses in her hair and
matching accessories.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held in the church
garden Hurricane torches were
placed throughout the court-
yard. The bride s table was laid
with white organza and ac-

cented by hurricane lamps with
crystal chimneys with spring
flowers entwined. The tradi-
tional four tiered wedding cake
was decorated with sugar spun
flowers and topped with a
miniature bride and groom
The groom’s table was laid
with brown linen with ecru
appliques. Yellow daisies deco-
rated the table with gold service
and candelabra The groom’s
cake was chocolate. Punch and
coffee were served in crystal
appointments.
Serving in the garden party
were Mrs. Houston McCann and
Mrs. Harold Hickman of
Bishop; Mrs. Tandy Wilkerson
of Ingleside; Miss Rebecca
Mitchell of San Antonio, Miss
Debbie Cooper of Kingsville,
and Miss Shannon McCann of
Bishop Miss Diane Eddings of
Corpus Christi passed out the
rice bags
After a wedding trip to
Guadalajara and Puerto Val-
larta, Mexico the couple will be
at home in San Antonio. For her
going away attire, the bride
chose a Navy blue knit dress
and contrasting yellow jacket

Workshop
Planned For
Women’s Clubs
The South Texas District of
Texas Federated Women's
Clubs will have a workshop in
Corpus Christi on Tuesday,
June 25. The meeting will be
held at La Quinta Royale Motor
Inn
Club presidents, year book
chairmen and interested mem-
bers were urged to attend.
The meeting will start with a
coffee at 9:30 a m. with the
workshop to follow A luncheon
will be served at 12 noon.

Wedding Held
In Ingleside
Miss Kathy Dee Stirnemann
and Joel Dean Hurta were
married June 1 at the First
Baptist Church in Ingleside.
The bride is the daughter of
Mrs. R.L. Stirnemann of
Ingleside and the late Mr.
Sitrnemann. The groom is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. B.J. Hurta
also of Ingleside
The Rev. W.T. Morris read
the double ring wedding vowa
before an altar banked with
white roses and pink daisies in
memory of the bride's father.
Branched candelabras were at
either side of the altar.
Mrs. C.E. Ford was organist
and Mrs. Lewis Smith and Mrs.
W.T. Morris sang “The Wed-
ding Prayer” and “The Twelfth
of Never”.
John Collins, an uncle,
escorted the bride to the altar.
She wore a white satin polyester
gown covered with long lace
train and veil trimmed with
lace. She carried a bouquet of
white roses with an orchid
center.
Miss Kathy Bobbitt was maid
of honor and Miss Bonnie Runk
was bridesmaid They wore
long pink dotted Swiss empire
styled dresses with pink velvet
ribbons accenting the waistline.
They carried nosegays of white
roses and white daisies.
Tina Glover was flower girl
and Jade Glover was ring
bearer.
David Hurta, brother of the
groom was best man. William
Dilworth was groomsman They
wore white tuxedos with pink
ruffled shirts
The bride’s mother wore a
long A-line creme colored dress
with dark beige lace down the
front to hem. The groom’s
mother wore a long green gown
of double knit with puffed
sleeves and gathered skirt. Both
