Hosts All-Day Business Conference
Texas Workforce Commission
(TWC) Chairman Bill Hammond
is inviting local area employers
and managers to the Wichita
Falls Holiday Inn at 401 Broad
Street on Friday, April 18, 1997
for a Texas Business Confer-
ence. This is the first confer-
ence for Wichita Falls area em-
ployers since the legislature
established TWC.
"The $60 registration fee will
provide the best training bar-
gain in the state for a full-day
seminar for business owners
and managers," emphasized
Hammond.
"All employers who can,
should take the opportunity to
attend this conference. Our
experts in employment law will
discuss hiring, firing, the un-
i employment compensation ap-
peals process, child labor laws
and other issues that affect em-
ployers on a regular basis. We
will also provide mock hear-
ings, interviews and investiga-
tions to help you avoid costly
mistakes when operating your
business and managing your
employees," Hammond noted.
"While we mailed imitations
to employers, anyone who has
not received an invitation is
welcome to attend," Hammond
continued. "Workshop facilita-

Wichita Falls Holiday Inn.
The conference will begin with
a continental breakfast. Each
speaker will provide brief over-
view of his or her specialization
and seminar topic. Workshop
facilitators will hold a wrap-up]
session at 3:45 P.M. to answer
questions.

Producer have until May 1.
1997 to report or change their
wheat and oat acreage. You will
report to us the acreage that
you intend to harvest for grain,
bale or graze out. Producers
participating in the AMTA pro-
gram must tile annual acreage
reports to maintain eligibility
for Price Support, CRP, and •
NAP. Fruit and Vegetable plant-
ing on contract acreage must
also be reported.
Producer who have "CAT" in-
surance with FSA have already
reported their acreage. If you
intend to make other use of the
wheat for grain acres, and ap-
praisal must be requested from
this office.
Appointments will not be nec-
essary.

Defeat Petrolia
The Archer City Lady Cats
came from behind to defeat
Petrolia 4-3 last week in dis-
trict softball action. The Lady
Pirates led 2-1 after the first
inning before increasing their
margin to 3-1 in the to of the
6th inning.
Jacie Sheppard hit a solo home
run in the bottom of the 6th to
keep AC within one run. The
Lady Cats won the hard-fought,
defensive struggle in the bot-
tom of the 8th.
Leading hitters were Sheppard
( 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s), Tiffany
Jentsch and Lacey Lowery (both
1 for 3), and Candi Bowen (1 for
4).
The win pushed Archer City
into a tie with Petrolia for first
place at 7-1.
At press time Tuesday, Archer
City was hosting Windthorst,
but inclement weather was
threatening to postpone the
game.

The Windthorst Trojans
tlieir 4th straight game last
Tuesday as they defeated Alvord
6-4. The win followed victories
over Nocona (13-1) on March
21. Henrietta (12-1) on March
25. and Byers (13-1) on March
28. The Byers win was the
opening game of district. Lead-
ing hitters wTere Bradley
Hoffman, Kyle Schneider. Wes
Johnson, and Andy Syrus with
two hits each. The Trojan de-
fense committed only one er-
ror. and Johnson collected his
fifth win of the season.
The Trojans now stand at 8-5
on the year and 1-0 in district.
Results of their April 4th game
with Bellevue were not avail-
able at press time. The Trojans
next home game is April 11
against. Alvord at 5:00 pm.
